A Blessing or a Curse, You Choose

Deuteronomy 11:26

Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse;

Every decision you make will be a blessing to your life or a curse that follows you for the rest of your life. You better choose wisely when making decisions. The great thing about God is that He gives you the choice in every decision. Also, the great thing about God is that He gives you the guides to help you in making decisions. God gives you His Word that has the answer to every decision you need to make, but you must study God’s Word to find the answer. He gives you the Holy Spirit who guides you into all truth, which means He will guide you to make the right decision. He gives you the portal of prayer to come and ask for His wisdom on what to do when you don't know what to do. Nobody has an excuse to make a decision that will become a curse to their lives if they will just access all these guides God gives them to make decisions that become a blessing. Let me give you several principles you can follow to make the right decision that will bring blessings to your life every time.

First, realize the importance of every decision. There is no unimportant decision. The little decisions affect the big decisions. Therefore, every decision you make is a big decision. It is when you become flippant about your decisions and treat some as insignificant that you make bad decisions that will become a curse that follows you for the remainder of your life. Treat every decision as a life-changing decision, and you will be very careful to make sure that every decision is the right decision.

Second, will the decision you make help you obey God? Decisions have no gray area. When we treat decisions as unimportant, we treat them as a gray area that will not make a difference in our lives. Every decision makes a difference in your life, and that is why you must ask yourself if this decision will help you to obey God. If a decision will cause you to disobey God, you can be assured that the decision will bring a curse upon your life.

Third, will the decision turn you to do right or turn you in the wrong direction? Every decision has a direction that it points you toward. Some decisions may not be a right or wrong in the immediate, but they will change your direction which will cause you to do either right or wrong in the future. You must ask yourself if a decision will keep you doing right or if it will turn your focus to cause you to do wrong in the future. The direction a decision turns you toward is critical to whether it will be a blessing or a curse.

Fourth, will the decision cause you to do more right? God warned Israel that the decision to do right will one day cause them to pass over Jordan to possess the land God wanted to give them. Any decision that does not move you forward for God is a decision that will become a curse in the future. A decision that causes you to do more right is a decision of faith that forces you to trust God. Faith decisions are always a right decision even if they seem scary and foolish to the faithless. Never make a decision that allows you to live a mediocre life. Make decisions that force you to do more right because that decision will make you live by faith, which pleases God.

These four principles will guide you to make decisions that will bring blessings to your life. The blessings may not come immediately, but they will come. Be careful with the decisions you make, for every decision is a life-changing decision.
