A Critical Part of Your Armour

Ephesians 6:15

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

We often forget how critical it is to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. The feet are critical to living a life of faith. Faith is a forward-moving motion. Therefore, to keep moving forward by faith, you need healthy feet. If your feet get injured in the spiritual warfare, you can have the rest of the armour, but the enemy will still be able to destroy you.

Let me illustrate this truth. I can put on the helmet of salvation, but if I can't move because my feet are injured, the enemy will be able to approach me and hurt me even though the helmet is on. I can put on the breastplate of righteousness, but if my feet can be injured if they are not shod, eventually allowing the enemy to destroy me. I can have my loins girt about with truth, hold the shield of faith, and swing the sword of the Spirit, but if my feet are not shod, I have no way to stand or move forward; thus, leaving myself open to the enemy’s attack.

Having our feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace is crucial to moving forward by faith and successfully fighting in the spiritual war that we are in. Having your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace is nothing more than being a soul winner. Soul winning may be one of the most critical pieces of armour to successfully battling and winning in the Christian faith. All the armour is important because God tells us to put on this armour, because He would not tell us to put it on if it were not important. However, having your feet shod to protect them is what allows us to keep moving forward to keep the enemy from being able to approach and hurt my faith from areas that the armour does not protect.

Let me illustrate this truth. Years ago, my wife and I took a ladies singing tour group for nine weeks of the summer to represent a Bible college. These ladies were all great ladies, but they were also normal people, that after a few weeks in a 15-passenger van, found themselves having issues with each other. When I saw these ladies were not getting along, I would send them soul winning for about an hour. It was amazing that each time they came back from soul winning, the problems they had before were no longer an issue. Why? Because their feet were shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace, and they were able to move forward, leaving behind the issues their flesh was focusing on.

Yes, I truly believe that soul winning is critical to living a successful Christian life. Many of the problems we face would be resolved if everyone went soul winning. Marriage problems would be resolved if the couple went soul winning every time they had an issue. Church problems would be resolved if every church member went soul winning. Sin problems would dissipate if every person struggling with sin would go soul winning. We could go on to point out different problems, but soul winning would resolve all issues if people would go. The reason soul winning resolves these issues is because it is the most selfless act a believer can perform, and by going soul winning, we take our eyes off ourselves to place them on the need for others to be saved. Anytime you take your eyes off yourself, you will resolve your problems. My friend, get your feet shod by going soul winning, and you will see the rest of the armour will be able to properly perform its purpose, resulting in a healthy Christian faith.
