2 Chronicles 2:5
And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
Half of the battle that we fight is in our head. Those who succeed greatly in life often think differently from those who are average. Those who succeed greatly in life are those who believe what they are doing is great; those who are average in life treat everything as if it's average. You cannot have an average mindset and expect to do something great for God.
One reason Solomon excelled in building the temple was because he treated his work in a great manner. Look at what he said about the house he was building. He said, And the house which I built is great. His mindset toward the project itself was that it was a great project. Then, you drop down a few verses and see in verse 9 that he said, the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great. In other words, Solomon was setting the mindset for those who were to do the work that they were not to do an average work, but they were to do a wonderful great work. In other words, he was telling them to treat it as if it were the greatest thing they could do with their lives because it was wonderful great.
Now, why did he have this great mindset? The verse above says, for great is our God above all gods. Solomon understood the work was great because the God he served was great. The result of this mindset is found in 2 Chronicles 5:14 where it says, the glory of the LORD hath filled the house of God. God was so impressed with this great work that He felt His presence was welcome, and He made sure His presence was seen and felt. This all happened because of the mindset that it was a great work.
Everything we do in the work of the Lord should be considered great. If what we are doing for the Lord is not great, then don’t do it. However, what we do for God IS great, and we should treat it that way. There are several reasons why we should have a great mindset.
First, having a great mindset causes us to treat the work differently. When you have a great mindset, you won't cut corners to get the work done. A great mindset makes us take care of every detail because of the importance of what we are doing. A great mindset causes us to give a greater effort towards what we are doing than we ever will with an average mindset. Nobody minds giving a great amount of time and effort to something that is a great project or cause.
Second, having a great mindset is infectious; it spreads to others. You will find that if your mindset is great, it'll be easier to get others to treat it greatly. You will never influence others to treat something great if you don't treat it great.
Third, having a great mindset inspires others to want to be a part of it. People don't want to be a part of something average or inferior; they want to be a part of something that is great. We ought to treat the Lord's work as a great work because it is a great work, and because it will cause others to want to become to be a part of it.
Fourth, having a great mindset towards the Lord's work will cause us to want to serve Him over anything else. When you see the Lord's work as the greatest work, anything else that the world offers will seem inferior and have no lure to you. My friend, it is a choice to have a great mindset. Nobody can make you treat the Lord's work greatly but you; therefore, choose to have a great mindset, and you will find that God will be pleased to help you with what you do for Him.
