2 Samuel 11:1
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
One of the saddest stories in David's life was the time when he stayed home from the battle and committed adultery with Bathsheba. This incident changed the narrative of David's life for the worse. The reason this happened in David's life was because he approached a dangerous time and never dealt with it as such. Had David approached this time in his life as a very dangerous time, I believe he would have been more careful and may have avoided destroying the peace that God had given him. Let me share several dangerous times in your life that you must be aware of.
First, successful times are a very dangerous time in one's life. Success can give you self-confidence that you can do anything without it hurting you. You cannot be so confident in your abilities that you believe God needs you more than you need God. Many people have found success to be the time that destroyed their lives because of their pride. Whenever you find success in life, never let it go to your head, but treat it as a very dangerous time of life, keep doing what led you to success, and you will stay away from sin.
Second, still times are a very dangerous time in your life. When you have nothing to conquer, sin will woo you into trying to conquer it, only to find that sin will conquer you. When you are in still times, create a project to do so that you are not doing nothing. Always remember that idle time is the Devil's workshop; therefore, fill your idle times with new projects that you need to conquer for God.
Third, night times are dangerous times in one's life. Many people have done well in the day, but the night became their greatest nemesis. Watch yourself when you are alone at night because this is when the Devil will fight you the greatest. Be very careful in the night times when you are alone so that you don't expose yourself to temptations through digital media, television, or by roaming the streets. Many people have lost their purity and testimony in the night times of their lives.
Fourth, alone times are a dangerous time in one's life. When you are alone, you must keep yourself very busy if you don't want sin to creep into your life. It is easy to do right when you are with the crowd that does right, but it is when you are alone that Satan often allows temptations to come your way, and you will find that these temptations expose your weak character. When you know you will be alone, fill your time with much work so that you don't have time to investigate sin.
Fifth, sorrowful times are dangerous times in one's life. Many people have made bad decisions in times of sorrow. Sin often will say that it can comfort you, but sin is not a comfort food; it is a destructive act that will destroy your life. Watch yourself in the sorrowful times of life so that you don't add more sorrow to your life by choosing sin to give you comfort. Sin never adds comfort; it only creates heartache.
My friend, every time of life is a dangerous time, but these five times are the most dangerous. Watch them like you would watch a venomous snake, and be very careful what you do in these times so that the good narrative that you have built in your life is not destroyed because of sin.
