Don't Forget Your Dreams

Genesis 42:9

And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said unto them, Ye are spies; to see the nakedness of the land ye are come.

One of the great things about Joseph was that he was a dreamer. As a young teenage boy, Joseph had dreams that God would do something mighty through his life. He did not know how those dreams would come to pass, but he had a dream that God could do something mighty through him.

However, maybe the greatest thing about Joseph is that he remembered the dreams. He never let his dreams die, but he always kept them in his heart. While he was in slavery, he remembered the dreams. While he was in the jail cell, thinking that the dream would never come to pass, he remembered the dreams. Now, when the dreams have come to pass, he still remembered the dreams; he never let them die.

One of the great secrets of the Christian life is never to let the dreams die that God has given to you. Those whom God has used the greatest are those who never let their dreams die. God used Moses in a mighty way, and he was a dreamer. As a young man, he dreamed that God would use him to deliver Israel from Egypt, and yet, for forty years, he never saw that dream become a reality. However, the forty years in the desert never squelched the dream that Moses had, and eventually that dream became a reality. When you look at men like Joseph and Moses and wonder why God has used them so mightily, I believe one of the significant reasons is that they never let their dreams die; they always remembered their dreams.

If God is going to use you mightily, you must be a dreamer. If you have no dream for God to do something through your life, you are sure to do nothing for God with your life. As a young man, I had dreams of God doing something mighty in my life. As a seven-year-old boy, I dreamed of preaching to large churches. Now that I pastor a larger church, I remember the dreams God gave me as a young boy, and I'm thankful I never let the dreams die. If you're going to do something for God, you must have some dreams for God to use you mightily.

Moreover, if God is going to use you mightily, never let anything sidetrack you from your dream. Whether it be sin or world opportunities, you cannot let anything pull you away from seeing that dream of God using you mightily. Many people have allowed money to sidetrack them from seeing the dream of God using them mightily. Many people have allowed worldly entertainment and positions to sidetrack them from the dream of God using them mightily. You can be assured that Satan will give you dreams that will seem worthy, but you must reject them because only the dreams of God using you mightily are the dreams worthy of pursuing.

Furthermore, you must remember the dreams and never let time take that dream away. Joseph remembered the dreams after a decade of heartache. No matter how long it has been since God gave you that dream, I want to challenge you to remember those dreams. You need to do everything you can to get closer to that dream today than what you was when God gave it to you. You'll never know when God will make that dream become a reality, but He cannot do it if you forget your dreams. Be a dreamer, but also be a dreamer who never forgets their dream, and does everything they can every day of their life to see that dream become a reality.
