Proverbs 15:22
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
Every person needs a purpose in life. That purpose in life is what drives you. Without a purpose, you will live a life of disappointment. Life needs a purpose. Purpose is what makes you get up every morning and causes you to do something. Purpose is what makes you push through when you don't feel like doing something. Purpose is what allows you to put away things that hinder you from doing what your purpose is. Purpose is what keeps you doing right when your flesh wants to do wrong. Without a purpose, your life will be disappointing and will never reach its potential.
Every believer needs to understand that God made them for a purpose. We often call this the will of God. The purpose for which God made you is where you will find your life will make its greatest impact. You can try to use your life in a different way, but you will find that you will never be satisfied. Using your life for a purpose other than what God intended is like trying to use a screwdriver to hammer a nail into the wall; it just won't work. The verse above provides several insights into how to fulfill the purpose for which God has created us to do.
First, you must realize that you were made by God to do a purpose for Him. God did not make you to live to do what you want to do, but he made you to live to fulfill a purpose that will affect eternity. You will never find that purpose in life if you live a self-centered life. You should make it your goal to find what God's purpose is for your life, and you should do everything in your power to fulfill that purpose.
Second, you must make that purpose your sole focus in life. You will never fulfill a purpose when you are double-minded. The Scripture states that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. This means that you must maintain your focus on what your purpose in life is. It does not matter if your purpose does not match another’s purpose; it only matters if you fulfill your purpose.
Third, you will never fulfill that purpose without getting help from someone to direct you towards it. Many purposes have been disappointed because people are too proud to get help from someone else. You must accept that you don't know everything, and there are people that God has placed in your life to help you fulfill His purpose for your life. It is foolish to try to fulfill God’s purpose for your life without getting help in fulfilling that purpose. One of the things that has helped me in my life is that I've never been afraid to ask people for advice on how to do what God's purpose is for my life. Getting counsel to fulfill God’s purpose for your life will help you to avoid the many pitfalls Satan will throw at you to keep you from doing what God made you to do.
Fourth, God has given you a multitude of counselors; you would be wise to listen to them. The multitude of counselors God is talking about are the authorities in your life. You cannot be your own authority and fulfill the purpose God has placed you on this earth to do. God has given you a pastor, a Sunday school teacher, parents, and other spiritual authorities to give you counsel to help you fulfill that purpose. If you don't go to these people or listen to them, you will miss the advice they are giving to help you fulfill the purpose for which God has placed you on this earth. Listen to those who are in authority as they teach you; you will find their advice will help you to reach your greatest potential in life.
