Getting Warmth from the Wrong Source

Mark 14:67

And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

We have heard the story of Peter following afar off many times. In the distance, Peter found himself warming at a fire that was surrounded by the critics and enemies of Christ. Instead of going close to Jesus, he warmed himself from the wrong source. It says about a little maid, she saw Peter warming himself. Peter was getting his warmth from Peter. Peter was getting his warmth from the wrong source. The result of Peter warming from the wrong source resulted in him denying his church, his faith, and his God.

Many today are getting their warmth from the wrong source. Many churches are seeking their warmth from feel-good church services, only to lead those who go to that church to abandon the ways of Christ for other ways. Many believers are getting their warmth from themselves instead of getting their warmth from the right source. We wonder why so many believers are going the way of the world, and the reason is because they have been standing at the wrong fire, getting their warmth from the wrong source and feeling good about it.

You can never get your warmth from the wrong source and stay on the right path. You can not get your warmth from the critics of soul winning and keep the soul winning fires burning. Go ahead, believer, get your warmth from your own fire of the critics who criticize the preachers of the past, and the soul winning efforts of the soul winner, and one day you will find yourself denying your church, your faith, and eventually your God. You cannot warm yourself at the critics’ fire and stay true to the old-time religion and soul winning.

Moreover, you cannot get your fire from yourself without your flesh leading you to the world's music and feel-good preaching. Many churches have designed their services to make the people feel good instead of giving them what they need, and it has led many believers to forsake the old paths. Many people are warming themselves with the praise and worship services that sing self-centered music, and the warmth they are getting will eventually lead them to become critics of the old paths. Every time someone has tried to warm themselves from themself, they have always gone the way of the world.

My friend, you should be warming yourself from the fires of the old paths and God's Word. You cannot get warmth from false perversions and stay on fire for God. Too many have run to the ESV and NIV, instead of running to the KJB, and every time they have gone to the false perversions, they have found themselves standing at the wrong fire.

You should be warming yourself at the fires of those who have walked the old paths. There is no way I would stand at the heathen's fire who criticizes those of the old paths and their soul winning because, if I stand at their fire, I will leave the paths that were handed to me from previous generations. I would rather stand at the old paths of preachers who stood for soul winning, the local church, and the KJB, and be criticized, than to derive my warmth from the crowd that criticizes these men and find myself standing at the fire with a hodgepodge of evangelicalism, doing nothing for God. Get your fire from the right source, and it will always warm you to stand firmly for the KJB, soul winning, and the local church.
