Mark 2:20
But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
Jesus warned the disciples that the day would come when He would be taken from them. Of course, they did not understand this statement, but they should have heeded this statement as a warning to take the time they presently had to learn everything they could from the Saviour. One can wonder if the disciples ever wished they would have given more attention to what He did while they had the Saviour with them. One can wonder if the disciples wished they had asked more questions while they had the Saviour with them. One can also wonder if the disciples wished they had given more energy to help His ministry while they were serving with Him. The disciples did not know until it was too late that they could not take time back to glean from Him once the Saviour was gone.
I was blessed to spend thirteen years of my life under the ministry of Dr. Jack Hyles. Those who were under his ministry will remember that he often said that one day he would not stand behind the pulpit from which he preached. He warned us to learn and to enjoy every day of the blessings that God was pouring out on his ministry. We knew what he said was true, but in our minds, we didn't think that day was until later in our lives. That day that God took him to Heaven seems to have come way too early, but those of us who took his admonition seriously tried to learn everything we could while he was still alive. In fact, I still go back to learn from him through his books, just like I try to learn from the Saviour’s ministry by reading God’s Word.
My friend, you won't have the godly people around you forever to help you out of your situation. God has blessed you with your parents, a pastor, and many great men of God, and you would be wise to glean from them before the days come when they are no longer with you.
Before those days come, you need to ask them every question you can and write down their answers. One day when they are gone, you will wish you had asked them a question, but you won't have the ability to ask them because they are gone. The only dumb question not to ask them is the question you don't ask. You need to think of everything you will face and watch everything they do, and ask them why they do what they do and how to do it.
Before those days come, you need to study them and learn what you can from them. You cannot learn from them if you are running to your peers. Your peers will still be with you when that man of God that God has blessed you is gone, so spend your time around them observing them, and learning everything you can from them while they are alive.
The key to this is that you must reach out to them while you have them. Reach out to them by doing everything you can to be with them. Reach out to them by calling them. It is not their responsibility to call you; it is your responsibility to call them. God has given you men of God to influence you for right, and if you take for granted the blessed opportunity to be alive in their ministries, you will one day look back in regret, wishing you had asked them that one question or wishing you had given more time to learn from them. God has blessed you with men of God in your life; don't waste the opportunity to glean and learn from them while you have them. It is too late to learn from them once they are gone.
