God Is Interested in Your Least

Matthew 13:32

Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Jesus spoke a parable about the kingdom of heaven being like a grain of mustard seed. The mustard seed is a very small seed; in fact, God said it is the least of all seeds. It is interesting that this little seed, the least of all seeds, is the one God uses as an illustration: when it is grown, it becomes the greatest among herbs.

Not only does God talk about this little mustard seed being the least of all seeds, but He also uses it as an illustration of faith. Luke 17:6 says, And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. Notice again how the least of all seeds is used as an illustration of faith that enables us to do great things for God.

God wants us to learn that little faith can always become a great faith if it is used when it is the least. We are prone to think that our faith is not big enough to do something for God, but God does not need your faith to be big right now; He needs you to take the least of your faith and place it in Him for it to become the greatest. It is not how much faith you have that determines whether God can use you; it is whether you will act upon the faith you have that determines whether God can use you greatly. The fact is, you will never have enough faith to do what God wants you to do, and that is why He wants you to take your faith when it is the least and attempt great things for Him before He uses it greatly.

I am reminded of Dr. Dallas Billington, who started a church in Akron, Ohio. He started at church with about 13 people. One day he looked at his song leader and said, “If you will build the biggest choir in the world, I will build the biggest church in the world.” Dr. Billington was not talking about his abilities, but he had the faith to believe that God is real, and that God could take their least and do something great. Dr. Billington eventually built the largest church in the world. He built a Sunday school that averaged over 9,000 every week. He had a big day, hitting 50,000 in attendance on one Sunday. All of this started from 13 people and a little bit of faith from a song leader and a preacher who believed God could do something big, and because of their little faith, God did do something big through their lives.

My friend, God is not interested in your big faith as much as He is interested in your least faith. God cannot grow your faith into a big faith until you take the least of your faith and do something with it. You will notice that the mustard seed started as the least of all seeds, but when it grew, it became the greatest. You have to grow the faith you have before it can become the greatest. If you don't take the faith you have and act on it, God cannot grow it into a great faith. Every great faith started small, but it grew into a great faith because someone acted on the faith they had, and God did the rest.

If God is going to make your faith a great faith, you need to stop worrying about how big your faith is, stop comparing it to another’s faith, and act upon your faith before God does something big with it. God is interested in your least faith, because when you act upon the little faith that you have, He turns it into a great faith, and He gets all the glory for what He did through your least faith.
