God Needs Better Planning

Joshua 3:15

And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

Have you ever noticed that God's planning seems to be a little off? I know, you think I shouldn't say this, but this is truly what it seems like when you look at many of the stories in the Scriptures. It seems like God's timing was off by leaving Israel in Egypt for 400 years before He delivered them out of bondage. It seems like God's planning was off when He led Israel to the Red Sea instead of taking them another easier route. It seems like God's planning was off when He told Joshua to cross the Jordan River at the time when the Jordan River overflowed all its banks. In fact, God could have waited until the time of harvest was over when the Jordan River was lower so that Israel could cross it at an easier time.

However, if God's timing with many of these instances and more were according to our planning and schedules, we would not have the miracles of God, and neither would we know about His omnipotence. What we don't consider is that God often asks us to do faith works at the most inopportune time so that His power can be seen through us. We would never have had the Red Sea parting had it not been for God's planning. The Jordan River would never have been parted had it not been for God's planning. We would not have seen God’s miraculous power by sending the 10 plagues upon the land of Egypt had it not been for His planning. You see, God's planning was right on time, even though His timing didn’t seem to be right according to man's viewpoint.

My friend, God's timing in your life will often seem wrong, but you must trust that He knows what He is doing in your life. We must understand that many of the times when God's timing seems to be off is when He is preparing to do the miraculous through your life. God cannot do the miraculous through your life unless you are facing the impossible, and the impossible will not happen unless God's timing contradicts man's planning. Let me share a couple of thoughts with you about this important truth.

First, you may disagree with God's timing, but you need to trust it. God knows what He is doing in your life, but if you don't trust His planning, but only trust your own planning, you will get yourself off the course from the miraculous that God wants to do in your life. You won't understand God's timing because you are not God. We only see time through our lifetime viewpoint, which is very small; whereas, God sees time through eternity, and that is why He plans the way that He does. Trusting God means that we don't understand why He planned things a certain way or why He works in certain ways, but we must be willing to follow Him, despite not understanding His ways, if we want to see His power working the miraculous in our lives.

Second, if you want the miraculous to be done through your life, then God will have to plan many things in your life that will seem to be wrong. Every miracle of God has been done when God's timing seemed to be at odds with man’s. Therefore, trust God! If you want God to do the miraculous in your life, then you must have the stomach to face God’s off-timing, even when it does not agree with yours. When God's timing seems off, prepare yourself to trust Him, because a miracle will be done through your life if you will keep following Him.
