God Wants All Your Care

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

There is an important principle stated in this verse that we often overlook, which is why God says to cast all our care upon Him. First, this is not a suggestion to cast all your care upon the Lord; rather, this is a command to cast your care upon Him. Secondly, God cares for you enough to want to care for your cares. You would be foolish not to cast your cares upon the Lord.

The word cares means many things. Your cares are the things that you supervise. Your cares are the worries that you carry in life. Your cares are the concerns you have for the future. Your cares are the trials you are facing in life. Your cares are the responsibilities you have to care for. Cares are simply everything you deal with in life, and they are to be cast on the Lord. Let me share several reasons why God commands us to cast all our cares on Him.

First, God wants us to cast all our care on Him to keep us humble. The previous verse says, Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: We are often too proud to want someone else to help us with our cares; therefore, God knows that these cares will destroy us if we don't humble ourselves to cast them on Him. Proverbs 16:18 teaches, Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. In other words, being too proud to cast your cares on the Lord will lead to your destruction. If you don't want the cares of life to destroy you, then cast them on the Lord. Don't be so proud that you won't give your cares to God. It takes a bigger person to give their cares to God than it does to carry them by themselves. Overconfidence in your abilities will lead to pride, keeping you from casting your care on God.

Second, God wants us to cast all our cares on Him because He wants to help us. The verse above says, for he careth for you. God cares for those that He loves, and He loves you enough to want to carry your cares for you. Stop pushing God away and cast your cares on Him. It is foolish to push God away when He asks you to cast your cares on Him, for all He is trying to do is care for you as you want.

Third, God wants us to cast all our cares on Him because we don’t have the strength to fight the Devil and carry our cares at the same time. Verse 8 says, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Satan knows you are carrying a heavy load in life, and he is hoping you are too proud to cast your care on God because he knows he can overwhelm you and hurt your Christian walk if you don't cast your cares on God. You are not capable of fighting both the Devil and to carry your cares at the same time; therefore, let God carry your cares so you can have the strength to fight the battles against Satan.

Fourth, God wants us to cast all our cares on Him because it brings us closer to Him. You can't cast your cares on God at a distance; you can only cast them on Him when you get close to Him. God knows that the closer you draw to Him to cast your cares on Him, the more you will become like Christ.

There is one keyword in this verse, and that is the word all. God doesn't want some of your cares, but all of them. Stop trying to negotiate your problems in life by yourself; instead, cast them on the Lord. He will help you if you will just give them to Him.
