2 Thessalonians 1:11

Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

We often hear people say that we are not worthy to be called of God, but this is not a Scriptural statement. Paul said to the church in Thessalonica that he prayed that they would be counted worthy of their calling. In other words, God has provided a way that every believer can make their life count for Christ. God wants you to be counted worthy of the calling that He called you to do.

To be counted worthy means that you fulfilled the calling God made you to do. When someone has done a job that they were appointed to well, the one who appointed them will say that they were the right choice. In other words, they were saying that they made their appointment or calling worthy. Oh, how we ought to live our lives in such a way that God would look at our lives and say that we made our calling worthy of Him giving us the responsibilities that He gave us. There are several things we must do to make this calling of God a worthy calling.

First, DO your calling. You will never make your calling worthy if you are not doing what God has called you to do. Many people have been called to do something for God, but have allowed other things to sidetrack them from their calling. Some have been called to do something, but have run from their calling. Others have been called to do something, but waited for the right opportunity to do it. My friend, if you will be counted worthy of what God has called you to do, you must get busy doing it. Everyone has been called, but it is those who fulfill their calling that have the greatest chance of being called worthy of their calling.

Second, fulfill God’s Will for your life. There are two Will's that God has for your life. There is God's revealed Will, which is obeying God’s Word, and there is God's life Will, which is doing what God has placed you on this earth to do. Doing both of these Wills is the only way you can be counted worthy of your calling. You will never fulfill God's life Will if you don't obey His revealed Will. Obedience to God's Word is critical to fulfilling the calling that God has given you in your life.

Third, do a work of faith. If you want to be counted worthy of your calling, then do a work of faith. Nobody has ever been counted worthy of their calling who has not worked hard. God never calls a lazy person a worthy person. Too many are playing through life instead of working, and then they wonder why God is not pleased with their life. Faith takes work and trust. If you will fulfill God's Will for your life, you must make it a work of faith, a work that is bigger than you and that will take God to do something through you.

Fourth, do these three things through the power of the Holy Ghost. It takes God's power to do a work of faith, to fulfill God's Will for your life, and to accomplish the calling of God on your life. You will fail these three things without the power of the Holy Ghost. I challenge you to spend much time in prayer asking God to give you His Holy Ghost power on your life. No great work of God has ever been done without God filling that individual with His power. You have a choice: you can either do it in your power or in God's power, but only God's power will accomplish the work that will make your life a worthy calling in God's eyes.
