Psalm 101:2
I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
The psalmist said he would behave himself wisely. If you are like me, I want to be the believer that God wants me to be. However, nobody is who they are supposed to be without doing right on purpose. If you behave like you are supposed to behave, you will purposely have to choose to do right. God shows eight actions a believer will do if they behave wisely. Let me show you these actions.
First, you must keep a right spirit. Verse 1 says, I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD, will I sing. A singing heart will be a heart that has a right spirit. Having a right song in your heart daily will help you to keep a right spirit. Of course, to have the right song means you must listen to the right music. Keeping a right spirit is often helped by singing songs throughout the day. Every day, it would be good to have a song you sing throughout the day to help you keep a right spirit.
Second, do right in your private life. Verse 2 shows you are to walk within your house with a perfect heart. What you do in public is not as critical as what you do in private. If you keep your private life right, you will have no problem doing right in public.
Third, be careful with what you see. Verse 3 says, I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes. Protect what you watch and look at. Your eyes are the gateway to your mind, and your mind is the gateway to your heart which produces the issues of your life. Keep what you see right, and you will keep your mind and heart right.
Fourth, be careful with your associations. Verse 4 admonishes that you must not know a wicked person. If you don't associate with the wicked, you won't partake of their wickedness. Keep your associations right, and you will keep your walk right.
Fifth, be careful with what you say. Verse 5 cautions about privately slandering others. What you say about others in private reveals your trustworthiness. If someone is willing to talk bad about others to you privately, they will talk bad about you to others. Be careful not to use your mouth to talk about others; rather, use your mouth to talk about the Lord, the Gospel, and ideas.
Sixth, be consistent in your life. Verse 6 talks about the importance of being faithful. A believer who behaves right is a believer who is faithful. Faithfulness is a choice to show up when you are supposed to. Your faithfulness is a choice to do right even when doing right is inconvenient.
Seventh, be a person of truth. Verse 7 admonishes not to tell lies. Your testimony is at stake, and to be truthful is critical to whether you can be a person who can be trusted with everything you say.
Eighth, be quick to separate from those who are directionally wrong. Verse 8 tells the believer to cut off all wicked doers. Keep your direction right, and you will serve God your entire life.
Are you behaving as a Christian should behave? Do these eight things, and you will please God with your behavior.
