Deuteronomy 5:24

And ye said, Behold, the LORD our God hath shewed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.

The fire has always been a type of trial. 1 Peter 4:12 says, Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: You will notice that God says we will be tried by the fiery trial. Trials are a part of life, and without them, you will not know several things about God that He wants you to learn. Let me share some great benefits you will discover in the midst of the fire.

First, God’s Word speaks more to you in the midst of the fire. Moses said that they heard God’s voice out of the midst of the fire. God’s Word will always mean more to you when you are going through trials. One mistake people make in trials is that they go into turtle mode with God and never read His Word. I have found in my life that I discover the greatest treasures of truth from God’s Word in the trials. There are many things God has written in His Word that will not make sense until you go through trials. It is the trial that opens God’s Word to you in a way that you have never understood it. God’s Word is the balm of Gilead that comforts the soul in the midst of the fire. When going through trials, spending much time in God’s Word is the best action you can take, for it is during the trials that you will discover the riches of truth from God’s Word.

Second, in the midst of the fire is when you will know His presence the most. The three Hebrew children did not see the presence of God until they were in the midst of the burning fiery furnace. God’s presence in your life will be more real when you go through trials. The grace of God is more real as you walk through the midst of the fiery trials. The trials will show you more about God than anything you can do. Though God is always with us, His presence seems nearer as you go through the trials.

Third, in the midst of the fire is when you will see God’s power the greatest. Elijah did not have the fire of God fall in easy times, but in trials. 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. This verse teaches that the power of Christ will rest upon you in the trial of infirmities. You see, it is in the trials that you realize your weakness, and it is in the trial that you will call on God to help you. It is the trial that reveals your weakness and the need for God’s power, and that is when God can do His greatest works through your life. Trials have a way of bringing us to our insufficiencies and to God’s sufficiency for every need. You will never know the magnitude of God’s power without going through trials.

Are you in the midst of a trial? It is in the fire that God can become more real in your life. Instead of letting the trial be your excuse to run and hide, let the trial be drive you to get to know God better. We should never ask for trials because they will come, but it is in those trials that you will see God as you have never known Him. Job never saw God outside of the trials, but He saw Him in the trial. If you let trials have their perfect work in your life, you will get to know God as you have never known Him, and He will use those trials to refine you so that you can come out of them as gold.
