It's The Way

John 14:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

As Jesus prepared His disciples for His death, He told them about Heaven and that He was going to prepare a place for them. However, He also reminded them that there is only one way to Heaven, and that is through Himself. Jesus defined salvation and the life that salvation brings in three ways.

First, He said that salvation through Christ is the way. In other words, there are many other ways that you can try to get to Heaven, but only one way will get you there. You cannot say that you will take a different way to Heaven because Jesus said there is only one way. God’s plan for salvation is not like driving to a destination that you can take many different ways to get there. For instance, from my home to the church, there are many different ways I can get there, but there is only one street I must turn on to get to 2800 N Divis Ave, which is where my church resides. I could drive all over the Oklahoma City metro to get to the church, but I must turn on N Divis Ave to get to my church. Life may take you many different ways to get you to Jesus Christ, but only Christ can take you to Heaven. You can turn on the street of works or baptism to get to Heaven, and you will find those streets will take you to Hell. Only taking the way, which is Jesus Christ, will take you to the desired destination you want to go to, which is Heaven.

Second, He said that salvation through Christ is the truth. In other words, every other way presented to get to Heaven is a lie. It does not matter how sincere a person is; if the way they tell you to get to Heaven is any other way than through Jesus Christ, that person is telling you a lie. The only truth about getting to Heaven is that Jesus Christ alone paid the debt of sin, and you must accept His payment to get to Heaven. Any other way to Heaven than through Jesus Christ alone is a lie. If someone says you must accept Christ but live a good life to assure yourself a place in Heaven, they are telling you a lie. The truth is that Jesus Christ alone will save you from your sins and keep you saved until you get to Heaven. You cannot send away your day of grace or lose your salvation because the truth is, you had nothing to do to save yourself; it was Christ who saved you and keeps you.

Third, He said that salvation through Christ is the life. In other words, you will only find eternal life through Jesus Christ; every other way only leads to death. You can try to find life in other ways, but life is only found in Jesus Christ. You will never get to Heaven to see the Heavenly Father without going through Jesus Christ.

Let me take this verse in one other direction to apply it to the believer. Once you accepted Christ as the way, the truth, and the life, you must never forget that living for Christ is the only way to live, the only truth that leads to happiness, and the life that brings true joy and fulfillment. You can try to find life in the world, but life is only found in Christ. Go ahead, and try another way to find joy and happiness in life, but you will find every other way other than Jesus Christ and living for Him is a way to sorrow, heartache, and a life of misery.

My friend, let me challenge you to live for Christ. You chose Him to save you, and because He was the only way, truth, and life to save you, He is the only way, truth, and life to enjoy life to its fullest.
