Hosea 10:12
Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
We hear the importance of seeking the LORD, but we often don't understand what it means to seek Him. Let's face it, the greatest thing that we could seek is the LORD. Now, the great thing about seeking the LORD is that we are promised to find Him if we will seek Him. God promises in Proverbs 8:17, I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. In other words, I will find God if I seek Him diligently. Let me share six things the Scriptures show us what seeking the LORD means.
First, it means to prioritize God above all else. Matthew 6:33 teaches, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Jeremiah 29:13 says, And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. You will struggle to find the LORD’s presence in your walk if you don't prioritize Him above all else. Seeking God and what He wants you to do ought to be at the top of your daily list. It is like having a stack of papers of things you need to do, and at the very top is seeking God. If God is not prioritized first in your life, you will struggle to find Him.
Second, it means to turn from sin. Psalm 66:18 says, If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: The believer who wants to find God in their life must get rid of the sin in their lives. Every day you ought to confess your sin to God, and you will find that once sin is removed, God's presence will immediately be found in your life.
Third, it means to obey God and submit to His will. Deuteronomy 4:29 teaches, But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. God's will must be paramount if you want to find His presence in your life. This means you must obey God in every area of your life. Once you draw a line of where you will not obey God, that is the line when you lose God's presence in your life. Obedience to God and submitting to His will for your life is essential to finding God's presence in your life.
Fourth, it means to spend time daily with God in prayer. Psalm 105:4 says, Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Walking with God daily is critical to finding God's presence in your life. His Word will allow you to hear His voice speaking to give you the guidance for your daily needs, and the time in prayer will remind you of His power to help you with your daily needs.
Fifth, it means to rely on Him for direction. Proverbs 3:5-6 promises God’s guidance and direction if you will trust Him. No matter what we face in our daily lives, God can be found if we will trust Him.
Sixth, it means to serve Him. Jesus says in Matthew 11:29, Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me… If you will get into the yoke of service with God, you will find His presence very near. Serving God by going soul winning is a sure way to find God's presence in your life.
Proverbs 8:17 promises, I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. My friend, God's presence is not far from you. Seek Him with all of your heart, and He promises that He will be found in your life.
