2 Chronicles 34:10
And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and amend the house:
Josiah was minded to repair the house of the LORD. This repair of the house did not happen by one or two people doing the work, but it happened because a multiplicity of workers were involved in repairing the house of the LORD. It was everyone involved that made this work productive and that produced a great revival in Josiah’s reign.
There is no church that God cannot make productive if all the people in the church got involved in every aspect of the church. There are many reasons we could discuss as to why churches are unproductive, but I want to focus on what the verse above teaches to show the key to having a productive church.
First, there must be people who are willing to work. God’s church will not be productive without a people who have a mindset to work. If the people are more involved in the world than they are in the church, the church will be unproductive, and the next generation will be pointed toward the world. Jesus made it clear in His ministry that a lack of laborers is a key reason the harvest is not reached. You are a member of a church for more than just calling that church your church home, but you are a member of your church so that you can help your church labor in reaching the harvest. There would be plenty of people to teach Sunday school classes, run buses to reach people who have no transportation to make it to church, and people to bring people every Sunday that they met out soul winning if every person in the church were involved in the workforce of that church.
Second, leaders must be involved with the labor force of the church. The leadership is not absolved from their responsibility to work because they hold a position. There is a mindset with many people who have been in the church for awhile that they have put their time in, and now it is time for the “newbies” to do their part. This mindset is a devilish mindset that hinders God’s work from going forward. The hardest working people in the church ought to be the leaders. The ones who go soul winning the most ought to be those who lead the church. The pastor ought to go soul winning more than anyone else. Any pastor who thinks they don't have time to go soul winning because of magnitude of their church is a lazy bum. Pastors are to lead! Pastor are to lead in the labor force. If the leaders led in the work, it gives no excuses to the church not to get involved in the work.
Third, both leaders and followers need to be faithful in the work of the Lord. Verse 12 says, the men did the work faithfully. Faithfulness to do the work of soul winning is the key to a church being productive. Every person, leader and follower, must be faithful in the work of the Lord. If we only get involved once in awhile, there is no momentum a church can build to see the lost reached for Christ. Faithfulness to do the work Christ commands us to do in reaching the lost is the least any decent believer could do for Christ.
Are you doing your part in working in your church and being faithful to it? Your church could become a productive church if YOU will become a part of the faithful workforce in your church to reach the lost for Christ.
