Numbers 32:11

Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

Had the ten spies known what would have happened had they wholly followed the LORD, I imagine they would have changed the report they brought back about the land of Canaan. The ten spies never got to see what God promised to them. Though Moses messed up with one bad decision, he at least got to see the Promised Land from a distance. Because these spies chose not to follow God wholly, they never got to see what God had planned for their lives.

Sadly, many believers never learn from the mistakes of these spies. There are scores of believers who follow God, but they are not wholly following Him. Those who choose not to wholly follow God don't understand they are missing out on seeing the plans God had for their lives. Only Heaven will tell of the many miracles God could have done had His people wholly followed Him. Let me share a few observations about the importance of wholly following the LORD.

First, it is a choice to follow the LORD wholly. Nobody can make you follow the LORD. I wish I could press a button in the hearts of people to get them to wholly follow the LORD, but I can’t. Every person who followed the LORD wholly had to choose to do it. Just as it is a choice not to follow the LORD wholly, it is your choice to follow Him wholly.

Second, if you are not wholly following the LORD, then you are following someone or something else. You cannot say you are following the LORD if you are not wholly following Him. James 4:4 reminds us, Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. If you are not wholly following the LORD, then you are following the world. There are only two choices to follow. However, let me remind you of Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Not following the LORD wholly means that you are not seeking Him first and have replaced God with something else in your life.

Third, you will never see what God has planned for your life if you don't follow Him wholly. I am afraid we leave many miracles on the table of life that will never be seen because we don't wholly follow the LORD. To see all of God’s plan for your life will only be realized if you follow Him wholly. One day, when we get to Heaven, we will regret that we did not wholly follow Him when we see how much more God could have done through us had we followed Him wholly. God’s plan for your life takes your choice to follow Him wholly. Oh, this does not mean that we will be sinless, because the Scriptures teach we will sin, but it means when we sin, we will quickly confess it to God so we don't mess up God’s plan that He has for our lives.

Are you wholly following the LORD? To almost give your all to follow God means you are not wholly following Him, which means you are missing out on plans that God has for your life. Whatever is keeping you from following the LORD wholly will never compare to what God has for you to do if you wholly follow Him. Wholly following the LORD never brings regret, but it does bring the greatest fulfillment in life because God performs His entire plan for your life.
