Revelation 12:17
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
If you serve the LORD and do anything for God, you will fight Satan. There is no getting around Satan fighting those who serve God. This is one reason we are commanded to take on the whole armour of God in Ephesians, because we cannot fight him in our own power.
However, God shows us how to overcome Satan’s attacks. In Revelation 12, we find that Satan accused the brethren, persecuted the woman, and made war with the remnant of her seed. Who is this remnant? This remnant are those who are serving the LORD. God has always used a remnant to do His work, but that same remnant is also under attack by Satan. In each instance mentioned in this chapter, we find that this remnant won against Satan. Let me show you how this remnant overcame the accusations, persecution, and attacks that Satan used against these believers.
First, they overcame Satan with the blood of the Lamb. They did not overcome Satan in their own power, but they overcame him through Christ’s power. It is not in your power to overcome Satan, but you overcome him through Christ’s power working through you. In other words, take on the whole armour of God and serve the LORD, and Christ working through you is how you overcome Satan’s attacks.
Second, they overcame Satan by the word of their testimony. This word is God’s Word. The Word of God is the Sword we are to use to fight against Satan’s attacks. You will never overcome Satan through your words, but you overcome him by God’s Word. Christ used the Word of God to overcome Satan’s attacks against Him, and you will only overcome Satan’s attacks by using God’s Word. This means you need to read God’s Word if you will use it to overcome Satan. If you don't know your Sword, how can you use it to overcome Satan? A daily walk in God’s Word is getting to know your weapon better so that you can use it against Satan’s attacks.
Third, they overcame Satan by not loving their lives unto the death. These people were all in in serving the LORD. You cannot overcome Satan’s attacks if you are half in and half out when it comes to serving God. You are in a spiritual battle, and Satan’s attacks will overcome those who are careless in the battle with a half-hearted effort.
Fourth, they overcame Satan by obedience to God. You cannot overcome Satan by disobeying God. You are sure to be another casualty in this spiritual warfare if you choose to disobey God’s Word. Obedience to God’s Word is the only sure way you can win against every attack from Satan.
Fifth, they overcame Satan by having the testimony of Christ. What is the testimony of Christ? Two things epitomize Christ’s testimony: He went about doing good, and He came to seek and to save that which was lost. My friend, live your life doing good by investing your life in others, and you will overcome Satan’s attacks.
Furthermore, live your life reaching the lost, and Satan’s attacks will come to naught. Satan only fights those who are damaging his cause, which means you will face his attack if you serve God, but you can overcome them by making it your life to reach the lost for Christ.
