Acts 2:46
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
Four words define why the church in the book of Acts grew tremendously. Those four words are, And they, continuing daily. Serving God was not just a one-day-a-week thing where they punched their clock to be in church, but these people made serving God their daily life. It was a daily thing for them to win people to Christ, to walk with God, and to witness to the lost. The result of them continuing daily was that the church became a great influential force in their society.
We strive to make our churches a great influential force through politics and fellowship, whereas the church in the book of Acts did neither of these. We allow outside mentalities to influence our church building methods, only to find that our churches are shrinking and dying. If we want our churches to be as influential as the church in the book of Acts, then we must be as relentless as they were with the responsibility of getting the Gospel out to every person in our city and in the world. Let me share several areas where we must be relentless so that we can help our church to become a great influence and force in our community.
First, we must be relentless in our Christian life. Weekend warriors for Christ will never make an influence on society; it takes everyday warriors for Christ to make an influence. If all you do is go to church on the weekends and never do anything else for God, you will never make an impact for Christ in your world or in your church. Sadly, too many churches are filled with weekend warriors, and then we wonder why the church has no impact on its community. If a church will make an impact on its community, then we must be relentless in living for Christ daily.
Second, we must be relentless in our walk with God. Prayer and Bible reading cannot be a one-day-a-week thing if we want God to make a difference in our own lives. Before you can make a difference in other lives, you need God to make a difference in yours, and this will only happen through prayer and walking with God in the Scriptures. This means you must wake up early in the mornings to spend time with God in prayer and in the Scriptures. God cannot make an influence on your day if you don't allow him to influence you early in the mornings through prayer and reading the Scriptures. The church in the book of Acts did not just let Christ influence them on Sunday, but they were relentless in their walk with God by continuing daily in prayer and in the Scriptures.
Third, we must be relentless in our witness for Christ. One reason the church in the book of Acts grew tremendously was because it was relentless in witnessing for Christ, resulting in souls being saved daily and added to the church. If every believer were as relentless in their witness for Christ, we would find our churches would be filled to overflowing. It is not that souls cannot be saved in our present day; it is that Christians are not a relentless witness for Christ every day. Every person we talk to is a person we must be a Gospel witness to if we want to see Christ make a difference in their life.
My friend, our society is in trouble because of believers who are not relentless about their walk with Christ. If you will become as relentless as the Christians in the book of Acts, you will find that your life will make as much of a difference in those around you as the Christians in Acts did in their world.
