Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
If I were to survey the lives of the great preachers and believers from the past, I cannot help but see the similarities. There is no secret as to why God used them. Many today say they want to be used greatly by God as those from the past were used, but few ever follow the pattern of their lives to see God do the same works through them. As I survey the lives of those from the past, I find five tools believers need to use in their own lives for God to use them mightily.
Your salvation testimony is the first tool you need in your Christian walk. Your salvation is your testimony. Your testimony is critical to overcoming Satan’s attacks and being a great witness for Christ. In Revelation 12:11 we see the saints overcame Satan by the word of their testimony. Likewise, it is your testimony that allows you to be a great witness for Christ. If someone were to ask me what helps me to lead many people to Christ, I would say it is my salvation testimony. People love to hear how others got saved, and when you ask them if you can share your testimony with them, you will be surprised how many people will want to hear it. Never underestimate the power of your salvation testimony, and never mar that testimony by yielding to sin.
The Word of God is the second tool every believer needs in their life. The verse above talks about the power of God’s Word. God’s Word is what pierces deeply into the heart and soul of the believer and the lost. It is the power of God’s Word that helps the believer to clean their life from sin. It is the power of God’s Word that convicts the lost of their need of a Saviour. However, the Word of God cannot do its powerful work in your life if you don't read it. The Word of God cannot do its powerful work in the lives of the lost if you don't share it. How much time you spend reading God’s Word and sharing it will determine how much power sin has in your life.
Prayer is the third tool every believer needs in their life. God commands the believer in Hebrews 4:16 to come boldly to His throne that you may obtain mercy to help in time of need. Every failure in life is a prayer failure. We fail because we don't spend time in prayer getting the needed help to live the Christian life. If you want to be successful in the Christian life, and if you want God to use you mightily, you must spend much time in prayer with God. He who spends much time with God in prayer will find the shine of God’s power will be evident to all who see him.
Faith is the fourth tool every believer needs in their life. Faith is the tool that allows us to see the miraculous. We learn in the book of Hebrews that we cannot please God without faith. God looks to show His power through the life of the believer who will step out by faith to attempt the miraculous. If you want God to work powerfully through your life, you must attempt great things by faith.
The power of the Holy Spirit is the fifth tool every believer needs in their life. You will fail without the Holy Spirit’s power on your life. My friend, live a holy life, spend much time in prayer begging God for His power, and do the works that require His power, and you will know the results of what God’s power does through the life of the believer.
