Revelation 21:27

And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

One of the great things about Heaven is that there will be no lies in Heaven. Heaven will be a place of honesty. Heaven is a place where no person who maketh a lie will enter therein. Does this mean that those who lie in our present time won't enter into Heaven? No! However, Heaven is a place where the believer will never again lie or be dishonest.

There are two things about lying that tell us what lies do to our lives and relationships. You will notice the lying defileth. To defile something is to mar, soil, or destroy something. In other words, lying defiles your name and character. Not only does it defile you, but it defiles your relationships.

Lying also is an abominable work. The word abomination means to be disgusting. An abomination is a disgrace to the believer. The believer is to be a worker of truth and righteousness, and to allow lies to protrude from our lips defiles our character and is disgusting to God.

Sadly, many don't hate lying as much as God does. In fact, we live in times when many feel that it is perfectly fine to lie so that you don't hurt someone’s feelings. People will lie so they won't have to be inconvenienced to do something with someone. People will lie about intentions and motives so that they don't have to tell their true heart. To allow lying to be a part of our lives only shows how little of a heart we have for God. Let me share a few thoughts about this abominable work of lying.

First, lying shows a total disrespect for the person to whom you lied. Lying to people we love means we think they are too stupid to figure out our lies. When you lie to someone, you are saying they don't have the ability of figuring out our lies. You may fool people for a while with your lies, but the truth always comes out because truth is more powerful than lies.

Second, lying is the destruction of relationships. Every relationship that has been destroyed, you will most often find that lying is what started the destruction. You show how much you love the people in your relationships by whether you will allow a “little lie” in your conversations with them. The reason lies destroy relationships is because the one you lied to will lose total trust in you when they discover it. Relationships are built on trust, which means lies tear down relationships. If you want to keep your relationships, you will be truthful to a fault.

Third, lying hurts your ability to be a witness for Christ. It is hard to be a witness for truth when your mouth is filled with lies. Many believers have hurt their ability to tell the lost how to be saved because they have lied to the lost. There have been many times that I cannot lead someone to Christ because they have been hurt by the lies of another believer. If the only reason you ought to tell the truth is so that the lost will never be hurt by your lies, that is a great reason to tell the truth.

My friend, telling the truth is a choice. You can tell the truth if you choose to. The life that tells lies is the life that will be living a little Hell on earth. If you want to live a life that is a taste of Heaven on earth, then live your life telling the truth all the time. Heaven is a place of honesty, so to be honest all the time is to bring a taste of Heaven into your life.
