2 Peter 1:4

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The power of the promises of God's Word is rarely talked about. We uphold the promises of God's Word when we talk about the need for getting prayers answered, but I believe we miss some of the great benefits that come from the great and precious promises of God's Word. It is interesting that God knows these promises are great promises. These promises are not just something that we should be flippant about, but we should realize they are great because of what they can do for us in our lives. Not only are they great, but they are precious. Why are they precious? They are precious because they allow us to become better believers for Christ. Let me point out several things that the great and precious promises of God produce in our lives.

First, the great and precious promises of God are what allowed us to get saved. It was by these promises that we have become partakers of the divine nature. Without the great and precious promises of God's Word, we would've never known how to accept Christ as our personal Saviour. These promises are great and precious because they showed us how to escape Hell by receiving Christ’s payment for our sins.

Second, the great and precious promises of God are what allow us to escape the corruption that is in the world. It is God's Word that shows us how to live a life that produces joy and blessings. Without God's Word, we would not know how to live the Christian life, which results in us escaping the corruption that the world produces. Certainly, the great and precious promises of God do not always tell us how we want to live, and sometimes those great and precious promises tell us to live in a way that does not seem to make us fit in this world, but they allow us to escape the corruption of the world.

Third, the great and precious promises of God allow us to be able to add to our faith. God doesn't want us just to be saved and never go any further than that, but He gives us the great and precious promises so that we can learn how to add to our faith so that we can experience greater blessings. Certainly, the greatest blessing is to be saved, but God has greater blessings for us if we will obey the great and precious promises of His Word.

Fourth, the great and precious promises of God allow us to abound in the Christian life. God wants me to thoroughly enjoy life, but I cannot enjoy life without the great precious promises of His Word. These promises allow us to abound in life, which means that we will find the greatest joy in life if we obey these promises that God gives us in His Word.

Fifth, the great and precious promises of God's Word allow us to be fruitful. God left us on this earth after salvation to bear fruit for Him. Without God's Word, you will never reach the lost for Christ, which will keep you from being fruitful in your Christian walk.

Sixth, the great and precious promises of God's Word will keep us from falling. If you will trust God and obey His Word, you are assured that you will never fall in sin. The easiest way to keep from falling and sin is to trust and obey the great and precious promises of God's Word.
