The Separate Place

Ezekiel 42:1

Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.

In this chapter, God talks about the future temple to be built for the end times. As Ezekiel explains this temple, he says that he was brought into a chamber that was over against the separate place. The separate place was a sacred place. It was a place you were not to bring the dust of the world into this very sacred room. It was sacred because that is where God met with man.

This is one of the great secrets to keeping God holy in your life. Too many want God to be one of the guys when God is holy and will NEVER be one of the guys. Instead of trying to make God one of the guys, we ought to separate ourselves and live holy lives as God is holy. If God is to be holy in your life, I believe there are some things you should separate so that He is always holy in your life.

First, have a separate place to read the Word of God. I believe it is good to have a certain place where you read the Scriptures daily. This place should be separate from people and distractions. It may be you have to wake up earlier to go to your separate place to read the Scriptures, but there is something about having a separate place you go to in the early morning that helps you to receive God’s truths for your life that day. Don't let the place where you study the Scriptures daily be a place where outside activities can distract you, but have a separate place where you study the Scriptures so that your mind is solely focused on God.

Second, have a separate place to pray daily. It is hard to have a time of prayer when you are around people. Every person needs to have a place where they get alone with God and spend time with Him in prayer. I have two different places where I spend time with God. One of those places is frequented daily, but once a week, I go to a separate place to spend time with God in a season of prayer. Having a separate place to pray sets your mind on how holy a time it is to pray to God. Prayer time should not be distracted by anything. If your prayer life is to make a difference, you must shut down the world around you to spend time with your holy God. God deserves your full attention, and when you have a separate place to pray, it shows God how much you cherish the time you get to spend with Him.

Third, make the church auditorium a separate place. I am afraid we have made the church auditorium such a commonplace that we have lost the holiness of the services. Sadly, many people treat church as any other gathering, and we wonder why God never meets with us. I believe it is good to dress your best to meet with God in all church services. Dressing your best to meet with God makes every service a holy time. I believe if you made church such a holy time, you would not be talking, playing on your phone, arriving late, or letting your mind wander during the services. If you made the church auditorium a separate place, you would treat it as a holy time, and it is a holy time because you are there to meet with God in His church.

My friend, having a separate place to meet with God will make that time more holy and sacred to your mind and heart. When we treat God that importantly, I believe we would live better lives and would receive more from God in these separate places.
