These Have Power

Revelation 11:6

These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

During the tribulation, God will send two witnesses to preach His Word for three and one-half years. It is interesting to note that before God speaks about the witnesses that He talks about the rebuilding of the temple. God always prepares for those He calls to preach.

One of the ways that God prepared His witnesses was to give them power. You will notice that the verse above says, These have power…. The God that prepares a place for a believer to go also has a prepared power for them to do the work that they cannot do in their own power.

God gives the same power He gave to these witnesses to you. That power that God gives to the believer is the power of the Holy Spirit. I truly believe the Holy Spirit is the most neglected and ignored part of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit lives inside of every believer, but many believers ignore His presence in their lives, and they grieve Him with the life they live. God has power for you through His Holy Spirit if you will only yield to Him and beg Him for this power. What power does God give you through the Holy Spirit.

First, He gives you power over sin. You will notice these two witnesses were clothed in sackcloth. Sackcloth was often worn when God’s people mourned because of sin and confessed their sin to Him. No believer can ever say that they don't have the power to overcome sin because the Holy Spirit lives in every believer, and He will give every believer the power to overcome their sin. The only reason sin overcomes you is because you have not yielded to the power that God has given you, which is the power of the Holy Spirit.

Second, He gives you power to overcome attacks. The Scriptures teach that the people who heard the witnesses will try to hurt them, but God gives these witnesses power to overcome the hurt. No matter what hurt comes your way, you have power to overcome it through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you will yield to the Holy Spirit, you will find His power to help you overcome the hurt.

Third, He gives you power to preach His Word. God gave these two witnesses power to prophesy for a thousand two hundred and threescore days. God still gives those who witness for Him the power to preach His Word. God gives power to the preacher who preaches His Word, but He also gives the believer power to preach the Gospel to the lost. You can try to preach this Gospel in your own power and fail, or you can yield to the Holy Spirit and let Him take what you say to speak to the hearts of those to whom you are giving the Gospel.

Fourth, He gives you power to do the miraculous. You will notice that God gave these two witnesses power to stop the rain and to turn the water to blood. God’s Holy Spirit will always perform the miraculous in those who have His power on their lives. You will never see someone empowered by the Holy Spirit doing the average. Rather, all who have had the Holy Spirit’s power on their lives have seen great works follow them. If you want God to do a great and miraculous work in your life, then you must have His power on your life for the miraculous to be accomplished through your life.
