2 Chronicles 25:8
But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
God commanded Amaziah to be strong for the battle. Amaziah could not win if he was not strong to face the battle. He could hide if he wanted to, but that would not make the battle go away. He could avoid the battle, but the battle was still to come. The best thing Amaziah could do was to prepare himself for the battle so that he could be strong when it came.
To be strong for the battle means several things. It means to be fit for the battle, and it means to be conditioned for the battle. You are in a battle as a believer. If you will win this battle, you must be strong for the battle. There are several things I do so that I can be strong for the battle.
First, I accept that I am in a battle. You entered a spiritual warfare when you got saved. Ephesians 6 shows us that we are in a battle when it gives the believer the armor they need to fight this battle. You cannot ignore the battle and win it. You must accept that you are in a battle if you are to prepare yourself for it. Because I accept I am in a battle, it keeps me aware that I must stay strong for this battle so that I can win it.
Second, I realize there is never a moment I am not in the battle. It is the moment you let up in our spiritual battle that Satan will do his greatest damage to you spiritually. Always beware of the battle. Every minute of our lives is part of the battle, and you will have a better chance of being strong for the battle if you keep this in mind.
Third, I go in the strength that I have. God told Gideon in Judges 6:14, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. It takes strength to gain strength; therefore, use the strength you have, and you will get stronger. If the weightlifter waits until he is strong enough to lift a heavy weight, he will never be strong enough to lift that weight. The weightlifter must lift what he can with the strength he has before he can get stronger to lift heavier weights. Likewise, the believer must go in the strength they do have if they are to get stronger for the battle.
Fourth, I daily walk with God in His Word and prayer. You will never find strength to fight the spiritual warfare without walking with the God who gives you strength to fight. God’s Word gives you nutrition to give you strength to make it that day. Walking with God in prayer gives you the power to overcome any battle you will fight that day. Victory in this spiritual warfare is dependent on your daily walk with God. You show me how faithful you are to walk with God in His Word and prayer, and I can show you how consistent you are in winning the spiritual warfare.
Fifth, I go soul winning regularly. The purpose of being strong is to win people to Christ. I cannot be strong if I am not in the spiritual battle, and the battle is about reaching the lost for Christ. There is no purpose for you to be strong if you are not in the battle, and the battle is clearly about seeking the lost so you can bring them to Christ.
Sixth, I yield to the Holy Spirit regularly. The Holy Spirit gives you the power you need to fight this spiritual warfare, but you must yield to Him if you are to get His strength. Make it a habit to regularly yield to Him throughout your day, and you will find the strength you need to win the battle.
