Ephesians 3:19
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
We live in a generation that is consumed with health. Men workout daily to build their strength. Ladies often have a daily time of exercise to keep fit and healthy. Many are consumed with eating healthy, and you will find several people fill their cabinets with supplements with the hope that these supplements will help them to live longer and healthier lives.
Imagine what would happen in our churches if believers gave the same attention to their spiritual health as they do to their physical health. The problem in most churches is that most believers are spiritually obese from feeding on the world. It is not that God cannot work through believers or churches today, it is that His people feed more on the flesh and personal desires than they do on the things that will make them spiritually healthy. Don't get me wrong; I believe we can serve God better when we are physically healthy, but you will do more to make your life count if you will work on those things that make you spiritually healthy. Several things it takes to be spiritually healthy, such as daily prayer, regular Bible study, and active participation in church activities.
First, it takes a daily walk with God in His Word to stay spiritually healthy. In verse 16, Paul talks about being strengthened. How does the believer gain strength? By reading in the Scriptures and praying daily. God’s Word is our spiritual meal for each day. Imagine how physically strong you would be if you went without food as long as you go without reading God’s Word. Many miss days at a time or are sporadic in reading God’s Word, and then they wonder why they constantly fail in their Christian walk. A daily feeding of God’s Word is necessary to give you the spiritual strength for that day to overcome temptation and to do the work God intends for you to do that day.
Second, it takes faith to stay spiritually healthy. Faith living is a key to the Christian pleasing God. You will certainly be spiritually healthy if you are pleasing God. There is no purpose for faith if you are not serving God. Faith is needed to serve God. You will be spiritually unhealthy if you are not constantly attempting something by faith for God. Faith living keeps your faith strong, and a strong faith allows God to continue to work through your life.
Third, it takes love to stay spiritually healthy. God’s love working through your life is what build spiritual strength. God does not give you His love to hold, but to help others. Love is meant to be a conduit and not a capacitor to hold. Love is what causes the believer to live for others. Love will only be a part of your life if you live your life to give to others. You will notice that God loved us by giving, and unless you live your life giving of yourself to others, you will never know the love of God. A believer who lives to spread God’s love to others through soul winning will always be spiritually healthier than the believer who sits in a pew and does nothing.
Fourth, it takes God’s power to stay spiritually healthy. The purpose of these first three things is so that we can be filled with the fulness of God. The fulness of God is the power of the Holy Spirit working through your life. You will never know the power of the Holy Spirit if you don't spend time in prayer begging for that power and yielding yourself to the Holy Spirit, and then giving your life to attempt great things for God by faith.
