Traits Every Christian Needs

1 Thessalonians 5:15

See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

The Christian life is not as difficult as some would like to make it. God gives the believer seven simple traits they need to have to live the victorious Christian life. Let me share these traits God wants you to have so that you can enjoy victory in your walk with God.

First, rejoice evermore. Rejoicing ought to be a regular part of your life. Every day, you should take time to rejoice in what God has done in your life. It is interesting that God says to rejoice because that means, I am to continually remember those things that bring joy. You can always be a rejoicing believer when you look at the salvation you have; the salvation that brought true joy to your life.

Second, pray without ceasing. You will never make it through the Christian life without a consistent prayer life. You should have a set time daily to pray, but you should also make prayer a regular thing throughout the day for God to give you the power you need to live the victorious Christian life.

Third, give thanks in every thing. There is something in every thing that happens that you can be thankful for. When you learn to be thankful for every thing is when every thing that happens in life is a bonus from God.

Fourth, do not quench the Spirit. When you quench the Spirit, you cut off the power you need to live the victorious Christian life. You must live your life in such a manner that the Holy Spirit always feels welcome in your life.

Fifth, love preaching. There is something about preaching that ought to make you excited to hear it. God says we are not to despise the prophesyings. There will be times when the preaching will step on your toes, but you are not to despise it. The one who despises the reproofs of preaching will find that preaching will not be able to make them better, but it will most certainly make them bitter toward it.

Sixth, establish everything you do in the Christian life. You will notice that God says we are to prove all things. In other words, we are to settle what we believe and never revisit it. Too many people constantly try to see if what they are doing is correct. Once you settle from God’s Word what you are doing is correct, never revisit it. Satan is a master of causing question, and his purpose is to get you to revisit what you believe in hopes that you will change from what you settled by faith. Once you have settled what you believe by faith in God’s Word, never allow doubt to cause you to revisit if you are right.

Seventh, avoid the appearance of evil. Why must we avoid the appearance of evil? We must avoid it because our testimony is at stake, and so is the name of Christ. Never do anything that would bring a reproach to the name of Christ. If what you are doing could appear to be evil, don't do it. I would rather never do what could appear as evil and be wrong than to ignore that the act I am doing could be right and find out it was wrong.

My friend, we have one life to live, and we must live that life for Christ. If you make these seven traits a part of your daily life, you will find you can live a victorious Christian life.
