Psalm 130:6

My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

The psalmist was waiting for the LORD to help him in his trial. He says in verse 1, Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. He cried unto God for help, but it seemed that the LORD had not seen fit to answer his request yet. This is why he says in verse 6, My soul waiteth for the LORD…. This is a statement of hope that the LORD would hear his prayer and deliver him from this desperate situation.

Everyone has found themselves in the same situation that the psalmist was in. When you go through trials that are great and call on the LORD for help, it may seem as if the LORD has yet to come through. There are times when our back seems to be against the wall and the LORD has yet to respond. When you find yourself in this situation, there are three things you need to do as you wait for the LORD.

First, don't give up hope. Right after the psalmist said that he was waiting on the LORD, he said in verse 7, Let Israel hope in the LORD…. You must never lose hope while going through difficult times. Difficulties may try to take your hope, but they cannot take it unless you let them. Hope is often all you have in difficult times, and if the only thing you have in your difficulties is the hope that the LORD will come through, you have a hope that will never let you down. The LORD has always been there for the believer in difficult times, and He is not about to stop being there for you no matter how great your difficulty is that you are facing.

Second, pray much while you wait on the LORD. Never give up the hope that God will answer your prayer of desperation. God has promised time and time again that He will hear and answer prayer. Matthew 7:7-8 says, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. God promises that you will receive an answer to your prayer if you ask. Psalm 126:5-6 promises, They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. God does not say how long we must sow in tears, but He promises we will reap in joy. Keep on praying when you wait on God, for He always answers in His timing, and His timing is always right.

Third, serve the LORD while you wait on Him. One of the best ways to get God to answer a prayer is to serve Him despite your trials. God always takes care of the servant’s needs while they are caring for His need. God is sure to supply your need while you obey His will to reach the lost. Serving God while you wait on Him shows God that you will serve Him whether or not He comes through. There is something about this type of trust in God and tenacity that grabs God’s attention to meet the need of the one who is calling on Him in desperation as they serve Him.

Do you find yourself in the depths of life? Are you crying out to God in a depth of a trial? My friend, keep waiting on God. Quitting will never be an option if you are truly waiting on Him. Certainly, quitting may come across your mind, but it will not be a chosen decision when you determine that you will wait on Him to answer as He promised. So, until He answers, don't give up, pray, and serve Him.
