When You Lose Your Drive

Joshua 16:10

And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Israel’s demise started when they chose not to drive out all the inhabitants of the land. When they lost their drive, they began a downward spiral that led to the book of Judges where every man did that which was right in their own eyes. Because they lost their drive, instead of destroying the inhabitants of the land, they ended up joining them in worshipping their gods instead of serving Jehovah God.

You cannot lose your drive for God without it starting a demise in your walk with God. Many people had a drive when they first started, but once they had a few great accomplishments, they stopped driving to their destruction. You cannot lose your drive and it not destroy several things in your Christian life. Let me share five things that losing your drive will do to you.

First, when you lose your drive, you lose your vision. Vision is the key that keeps excitement and passion in your life. Vision is what makes you get up early because you have something great to do. Vision is what drives you to keep going when you are tired and don't feel like going. Vision is what causes you to press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. If you lose your drive, your vision will diminish quickly.

Second, when you lose your drive, you lose your faith. Faith works are the only thing that will help you to please God. However, when you lose your drive, you will find there is no more reason to live by faith. Faith is stepping out on the unknown, the unknown that a vision for God has given you. When you lose your drive, your vision will diminish, and the stomach to step out by faith will no longer be there.

Third, when you lose your drive, you lose the miracles of God. Israel never saw the miraculous after they stopped driving. There is no need for God to show His power to those who have no drive because they can do in their own power everything they are doing. The greatest reason this generation does not see the miraculous as the last generation did is because this generation has no drive that pushes them to attempt the miraculous.

Fourth, when you lose your drive, you lose your testimony. I don't ever want people to talk about how I used to do something; I want people to talk about how I am presently doing something great for God. Your testimony is at stake, and without a drive, you will lose the influence you had on the lives of people.

Fifth, when you lose your drive, you lose the next generation to the world. Joshua 24:31 says, And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel. This all happened because they lost their drive.

My friend, it comes down to one mindset: never think you have achieved everything. If you look at your life and see you still have much more to do for Christ, you will be able to keep the drive alive necessary to see God to continue doing the miraculous works of faith through your life and ministry. I challenge you never to lose your drive. Look at how much more you have to do for God, and your drive will stay alive.
