When Your Decision-Maker is Broken

Job 27:2

As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;

Job made an astute observation about his life, and that was that his decision-maker was broken. While his decision-maker was broken, Job never did anything that he would regret later in life. Though Job’s decision-maker was broken, he understood he still had to live, and he still had to face the consequences tomorrow of any decision that he made today.

There are times when our judgment seems to have been taken away, and we don't know what to do. This can be a very dangerous time for many because many have hurt their lives by making decisions when their decision-maker was broken. Let me share several things you must do when your decision-maker is broken.

First, acknowledge that your decision-maker is broken. You cannot go on in life as if you can make decisions when you can't. If you don't acknowledge that your decision-maker is broken, you will make bad decisions that you will regret later in life. There is no shame in admitting that your decision-maker is broken at the moment; there is shame in making decisions that will hurt your future while your decision-maker is broken.

Second, remember the Holy Spirit still lives within you to guide you. The fact that the Holy Spirit lives within you means that He will still guide you if you will yield to Him. One of the great decisions you must make in this time is to yield to the Holy Spirit daily. While your decision-maker is broken, always ask the Holy Spirit what you need to do.

Third, don’t make any life-changing decisions. Making life-changing decisions while the decision-maker is broken often leads to catastrophic decisions. Life-changing decisions can wait until your decision maker is fixed; until then, don't make major decisions.

Fourth, don’t do anything that would ruin your testimony. Just because you don't know what to do does not mean you should do something that would ruin your testimony. One thing you do have is a testimony, which means you should not stop doing what you were doing to build that testimony.

Fifth, only do what you already know is the right thing to do. There are several things you already know what to do; don't stop doing those things. You already know that you should read the Scriptures daily and pray. You already know that you should be faithful to church. You already know what is right, so you don't have to make decisions about what you already know is right to do; just keep doing them.

Sixth, pray fervently. Make prayer a major part of your life when your decision-maker is broken. You will never make bad decisions while you are praying; therefore, pray instead of making decisions until God fixes your decision-maker.

Seventh, do what brings delight to the Almighty. Soul winning always brings delight to God. When you don't know what to do, you do know that winning souls to Christ brings great delight to the Saviour; therefore, go soul winning until  God fixes your decision-maker.

I have learned that doing these seven actions when my decision-maker is broken has kept me from making tragic decisions, and they will also keep you from making tragic decisions if you will do them as well.
