Where Safety is Found

Proverbs 21:31

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Most people never do something that causes them to be unsafe because we are prone to self-preservation. However, the life of faith often does not seem to be the safe life, but the faith life is the safest life one can life because it is where the LORD promises safety. Let me point out three areas of life where you are safest.

First, you are safe in the battle for truth. Notice that God talks about the horse is prepared against the day of battle; but safety is of the LORD. We are command in Jude to earnestly contend for the faith. In other words, you will always find yourself in battles when you hold onto truth. It is not that you are looking for battles, but truth is always a source of battles. Many have avoided the battle for truth because they didn't like being attacked for upholding truth, and though they thought they were safe, they exposed themselves to the lies that attacked truth. Whenever you choose not to stand for God’s Word, you are exposing yourself to the false perversions that Satan pushes. Whenever you choose not to fight against worldliness, you choose to expose yourself and your children to the world. You and your family are safest in the battle for truth because safety is of the LORD.

Second, you are safe while soul winning. Again, there is a battle for the souls of mankind, and to enter that battle for the soul means you will place yourself in situations that most would consider unsafe just to reach a soul. Years ago, I led a man to Christ who told me after I was done that I needed to be careful in that neighborhood because my kind is unsafe there. I replied to this man that the LORD will protect me. I have always learned that God will put His protection around those who are busy getting His Gospel to the lost. Now, I think we need to be wise, but I have learned that people in the “bad” neighborhoods need to be saved, and they cannot be saved unless someone is willing to trust the LORD’s promise of safety and try to reach those souls.

Third, you are safe in the Will of God. My parents taught me as a child that I would be safest in God’s Will. They always assured me that if God’s Will took me to a dangerous place in the world, that I was safer in God’s Will than I was in the “safest” neighborhoods of America. To withhold your children from the Will of God because you don't think it is safe is to place them at risk. The safest place is always in the Will of God; the place of risk is any place out of God’s Will.

The key to this whole truth is the word “of.” Safety is of the LORD, therefore, whatever “of” God wants you to do is where you will find safety. This safety that God is talking about is anything the LORD has not allowed. Safety does not mean that I won't get hurt, but it means I won't get hurt from anything the LORD has not allowed in my life. Job found hurt, but he was safe from Satan’s hurt. If Job would have stopped serving the LORD, he would have been exposed to Satan’s desire to destroy him. This is why God warned Peter in Luke 22:31, …Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

My friend, Satan’s goal for your life is to destroy you, but you are only safe from him and his fiery darts as long as you obey God and stay in His Will. Don't allow yourself to reason if God’s Will is safe. You have God’s promise that you are safest in whatever the LORD asks you to do.
