Matthew 27:4

Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

There will be one person in Hell who did everything people try to get to Heaven, and yet He did not do the one thing that would allow him to go to Heaven. Judas Iscariot must be in Hell regretting that he did not do the one thing it takes for a person to go to Heaven. The interesting thing about Judas is that he did several things that many think will take them to Heaven, yet Judas did not go to Heaven. What did he do?

First, he lived a good life. Judas was not a bad person. He lived a decent life and was in agreement with society’s moral compass. Yet, as good of a life as he lived, his goodness was not good enough to get him to Heaven.

Second, he was religious. Judas was a very religious person. He was involved in all the religious activities of Christ church, but he seemed to have a good relationship with all the religious leaders of his day. His involvement in religion allowed the leaders to trust him enough to betray Christ. Yet, being religious did not allow him to get to Heaven.

Third, he had many experiences when he saw the miracles of God. If anyone could talk about experiences in life, most certainly, Judas could talk about all the experiences he had. He saw Jesus perform every miracle. What an experience! He could talk about seeing Jesus walk on the water; he experienced the storms ceasing immediately at Jesus’ command, and yet every experience he had did not allow him to make it to Heaven.

Fourth, he served God in the church. Not only was Judas a religious person, but he had a position in the church. Jesus made him the church treasurer, and still his position was not good enough to get him to Heaven.

Fifth, he told others how to get saved. Judas was part of the twelve that Jesus sent out to preach the Gospel. Imagine Judas preaching the Gospel that could save him and not accepting it for himself. It does not matter how many times you preach the Gospel; if you don't do what the Gospel says, you will go to Hell.

Sixth, he had a relationship with Christ. I often hear people talk about knowing they will go to Heaven because they have a relationship with Christ, but Judas had a relationship with Christ like few others, and still, that relationship did not allow him to go to Heaven.

Seventh, he admitted that he did wrong. Judas knew that he was a sinner, and still did not go to Heaven. He admitted that he betrayed the innocent blood, but that did not get him to Heaven. Knowing that you have sinned is not enough to get you to Heaven.

One may ask, then what must I do to be saved. The one thing Judas never did was he never accepted Christ’s payment as the payment for his sins. Judas went to Hell because he never got his sins paid. The only way anyone can make it to Heaven is by accepting Christ’s payment as the ONLY payment for sin. Have you trusted Christ’s payment as the payment for your sin? If not, accept Him today. The only way anyone will make it to Heaven is by accepting Christ’s payment for their sins. Once you accept His payment, God will look at your account as justified and will allow you to go to His Heaven when you die.
