Isaiah 59:1
Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Relevancy is the state of being connected to the present time. When something becomes irrelevant, it is something that can no longer be used today. For instance, there are many things that have become irrelevant in modern times. Years ago, most homes had a telephone that were connected to the wall and you had to stand or sit by the phone to be able to talk to someone because the receiver had a short cord. Today, those phone have become irrelevant because of the cell phone. Most people now use a cell phone as a means to be contacted by others.
One great thing about God is that He is always relevant. God never becomes out-of-date with times. The Scriptures teach in Psalm 46:1 that God is a very present help in time of need. The verse above teaches the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. God is teaching that He is always relevant to your needs and is always present to hear your prayers. There are several things that God being relevant means to the believer.
First, it means that God can always hear you present your needs to Him. God says that His ear is never too heavy to hear your request. The word heavy is talking about losing its hearing. Whatever your need is, God hears you present it when you come to Him in prayer.
Second, it means God wants to hear your needs in prayer. Hebrews 4:16 says, Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Not only does God hear your needs when you pray, but He desires to hear your need when you pray. Jesus says in Matthew 7:7, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: God wants you to ask; He wants you to come boldly to Him with any need you have because He is a relevant God who is present in your life and wants to help you through life.
Third, God being relevant means He will never come short of meeting your needs. God wants you to come to Him because He knows He has the power to meet every need you have in life. God is not just a God who had the power in the past to do the miraculous, but He still has the power today to do the miraculous in your life and ministry. God’s relevancy means He was in your past, is capable in your present, and will still have the power to meet your need tomorrow.
Fourth, God being relevant means that He will never pull back from meeting your needs. In other words, God is not a past tense God, but a present tense God who is very capable to meet each need that you have today. There are many people who were used in the past that are no longer relevant in today’s world, but God is always relevant to meet any need a believer has.
My friend, what is your problem today? Let me assure you that God’s hand is long enough to meet you where you are and powerful enough to supply the need you presently face. Times may change and problems may be different, but God is always the same God who is relevant to today’s problems, meaning He is capable to meet your needs if you will call on Him in prayer to help.
