Philippians 2:24
But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.
The six greatest words of anyone’s life should be, but I trust in the Lord. To trust something or someone is to put your confidence in them. To trust something or someone is to put your total reliance on them. To trust something or someone is to put your safe-keeping in them. In other words, Paul was saying that he had all confidence in the Lord to keep him safe from whatever life sent his way.
There are many things you can trust, but only the Lord can guarantee that He will do what He says He will do. Psalm 118:8-9 says, It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes. You can put your trust in man, but at some point they will disappoint you. You can put your trust in leadership, but leadership will fail you. When you put your trust in the Lord, you are trusting the One who cannot lie, the One that sticketh closer than a brother, and the One who promises to never leave thee nor forsake thee. There are several situations when you should put your trust in the Lord.
First, put your trust in the Lord when battles come. You will never get through life without having to face battles. One thing you can be assured of is that the Lord knows how to fight battles. Exodus 15:3 says, The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. There is not one battle that the Lord has lost, and He will not lose when you trust Him in your battles.
Second, put your trust in the Lord for your future. God knows what your tomorrow holds, and to trust the One who knows your tomorrow is the smartest decision you can make. Why trust yourself or people who only know what the immediate holds? Why trust yourself or people who don't even know what the next minute holds? You will never regret putting your whole future in the hands of the Lord, for He has never led one person wrong who trusted Him with their future.
Third, put your trust in the Lord for your labor. God knows how to help you when you work on the job. There are many times when you face situations on the job that you don't know what to do. You would be wise in those situations to trust the Lord by asking for His wisdom to help give you a solution to your situation. Many times I have faced situations when I did not know what to do, but a whispered prayer of help has always resulted in the Lord giving me the answer to my situation so I can complete a job.
Fourth, put your trust in the Lord for what you lack. Philippians 4:19 promises, But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Whatever you lack in life, God can supply that need. He has the wherewithal to supply any need no matter how big the need may be. Jeremiah proclaimed in Jeremiah 32:17, there is nothing too hard for thee: God is not nervous about supplying your need. His supply is endless, and your need will only be met when you trust Him to supply it.
Fifth, and most importantly, trust the Lord to save you. Only in the Lord will you find salvation. Acts 4:12 says about the Lord Jesus Christ, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. To trust anyone or anything else other than Christ to save you is to assure your eternity in an eternal Hell. Trust Christ! He will save you the moment you trust Him.
