2 Chronicles 2:1
And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
One great need today are people who will build something for God. In days when many say that it can't be done, there must be a people who show that it can be done with God’s help. We live in times when so many are just holding on instead of charging forward by faith to do something great for God. You will surely never build something for God if you never attempt to build something great for Him.
Solomon was not only commissioned to build the temple of God, but he did build it. Solomon could have easily accepted the mentality that he was not his dad and that he could not do what his dad wanted. However, Solomon understood that the God of his dad was still alive and had the power to build the temple through him. There are three traits we find in Solomon that motivated him to build something for God that you must have if God will use you to build something great for Him.
First, vision is essential to building something for God. Solomon determined to build a house for the LORD because he had a vision of the house being built. We live in times when so many have no vision to do anything for the LORD. When I took the pastorate at Maranatha Baptist Church, I had a vision to build a great and thriving church. You are sure to die at what you are doing if you have no vision to build something. There is nothing wrong with having a vision to build something great for God. Let the naysayers criticize, but keep that vision and let it drive you to build something great for God. God uses visionaries. Without visionaries, Solomon would not have built the temple, Noah would not have built the ark, Abraham would not have left his homeland, and the early church would not have turned the world upside down. Getting a vision is essential to building something for God.
Second, desire is essential to building something for God. You will never have desire if you do not have a vision to do something great, but a vision will produce a desire. Desire is the hunger for God to do something great through you. Desire is the longing that pushes you to pray. Desire is the yearning for God to do something big through you. My friend, your vision will die without desire. Many have a vision for God to do something, but converting the vision to desire is where many falter. If you don't have a deep yearning in your soul for God to use you, you will never convert your vision to reality.
Third, determination is essential to building something for God. Determination is the resolve that you are going to do it or die trying to do it. Determination is the strength of will that forges through all the battles to see God do something big in your life. Determination is what allows you to persevere and keep going despite the obstacles and opposition that you face. Determination is the obstinance to keep going despite the criticism and attacks that come from those who are jealous, lazy, and hateful towards anyone doing something great for God.
You will never build anything great for God if you don't have these three traits. Nobody can give you these traits, but you must choose to have them. God wants to do something through you, but you will never see Him do something through you without these traits.
