John 13:1
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
One of the great attributes of God is His love. John 3:16 says about the love of God, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This God is the God Who created the magnificent heavens and the earth. This God is the God who created the world in its splendor. This is the Holy God that one day every god will bow before. It is this God who says He loves us.
His love is so comprehensive that the only way He could explain His love was to say that He so loved the world. He was saying that His love goes beyond any human reasoning that man could ever comprehend. If we were to take every relationship love and combine it together, God so loved the world more than every relationship love put together.
God’s love was so great that He gave His Son so that He could reconcile us to Him. Instead of making us pay for our own sin, He made a plan to have His Son pay for our sins so that we could be reconciled to Him. Why would He do this? He did this because He loved us.
However, there is one other phrase that should encourage every person. It says that Jesus loved them unto the end. In other words, He didn't stop loving His disciples when they did wrong because he loved them until the end. From the beginning to the end, many situations could have caused God to stop loving the disciples, but He loved them unto the end. God’s love is so great that He chooses to love us from the beginning and all the way to the end.
You may doubt that God loves you because of some things you have done, but let the Scriptures remind you that He loves you unto the end. Certainly, Satan will try to whisper that God doesn't love you because of what you did, but Satan is a liar.
Moreover, God didn’t just love you because you are good, but He loves you entirely. God did not choose to love you when you were at your best; He chose to love you when He saw the entirety of your life, and that includes the bad. God's love is so great that you can never go so deep that His love cannot reach you and still love you enough to pull you out of the miry clay. You may think that you are too bad for God to love, but God loved you in your entirety. He knew what you would do, and yet He still loved you.
My friend, if God can love us in our entirety, why would you not entirely love others? It is a shallow love that says I will love you only when you are good, but it is a God love that says I will love you in your entirety. The greatest way any believer could portray God to the world is in their love. The world cannot understand the type of love that loves someone in their entirety. It is not that we love their sin, but we love THEM. We should know that when we choose to love someone that it means they will have weaknesses, but that is the greatness of love. It ought to be your daily challenge to let someone know that you love them despite their shortcomings. It is the God type of love that loves people in their entirety that will make a difference in people’s lives.
