Finding the Right Way

Allen Domelle

Genesis 24:48

And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.

Trying to find the right way in life for everything you do is not as difficult as some would make it. Abraham’s servant found the right way very quickly. This servant was sent to find a wife for Isaac, and he quickly found Rebekah. When praising God for answering his prayer, this servant said the LORD led me in the right way. How did the LORD lead him in the right way? The answer is found in verse 27, where he says, I being in the way, the LORD led me. This servant found the right way of life to go by being in the way so the LORD could lead him.

Too many want to find the right way in life to go without being in the right way for the LORD to lead them. Many want to do their own way, but you will only find your way leads to the wrong way of doing things. You will only find the right way in life if you are in the way that the LORD leads. Let me share this way this servant was in that allowed him to find the right way.

First, he was in the LORD’s way. In other words, he was doing what he knew was God’s will. You cannot find God’s will when you are not doing what you know is God’s will. God cannot lead you if you are unwilling to follow Him in what you know to do. If you are not in the way of reading God’s Word and doing what is right, you are sure not to find the right way. The right way of life is always found by doing right in the LORD’s way.

Second, he was in the yielded way. This servant did not look for what he wanted, but he looked for what his master wanted. You will never find the right way in life until you lay aside your will to do whatever God wants you to do. It does not matter if your way is not a bad way; the only way that truly matters is if you are yielded to do whatever God wants you to do with your life.

Third, he was in the prayer way. This servant asked God to lead him in the right way. You cannot find the right way of life without spending time in prayer. You can want to do right, but if you don't spend time praying to find God’s mind, you will never find the right way. James 4:8 teaches that God draws nigh to those who draw nigh to Him. How do you draw nigh to God? You draw nigh through prayer. Psalm 91:1 teaches, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Much prayer should be given when you are trying to find the right way of doing things. With no prayer, you will always justify your way as the right way, but with much prayer, you will find your will is yielded to God’s will, and you will find the right way.

Fourth, he was in the faith way. This servant stepped out by faith, and God rewarded him for his faith. God always rewards the believer who is willing to step out by faith. God will lead you in the right way when you are stepping out in the faith way.

Fifth, he was in the trust way. God promises in Proverbs 3:5-6 that if we will trust the LORD with all of our heart that He will direct our paths. If you will trust God with everything He asks you to do, you will find that He will direct you in the right way, which will result in His greatest blessings on your life.
