God Sent an Angel

Numbers 20:16

And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border:

As Moses negotiated with Edom about allowing them to pass through their land, he told Israel’s history to remind them of who they were to each other. He told Edom that God sent them to Egypt for 400 years, and that Israel cried unto the LORD for deliverance from their bondage. Moses said that the LORD heard their voice, and this is what I want you to notice, and sent an angel. Who was this Angel that God sent to help bring them out of the land of Egypt? This angel was Moses. In other words, what we often think of angels as being an angelic being God sent from Heaven is not the only angel that God sends. According to this passage, an angel can also be a man whom God has sent to help us in our time of need.

An angel is simply a messenger from God. Throughout the Scriptures, you will find that God often talks about the pastor of a church as His angel. God says in the book of Revelation, Unto the angel of the church of…. This angel that God is talking about in each of these verses is the pastor of each of the seven churches. You see, the pastor is God's messenger to each church. In other words, not to listen to your pastor is not to listen to the angel or messenger that God has sent to help you. Just as God said that Moses was an angel for Israel, so your pastor is the angel God has sent to help you with your life problems, and to deliver the message that God wants you to hear.

Hebrews 13:2 says, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. You will notice that God warns about the treatment of strangers and the entertaining of them as an angel unaware. Now, when we take this verse in context to other verses about angels, God is teaching about the importance of treating the pastor right. In other words, we are to entertain our pastor. The word entertain means to play host to, or receive as a guest, or to give consideration to what he says. It is critical that we, as God's people, make sure that we treat God's men as an angel of God, for how we treat God's angels will certainly bode well for us if we treat them well.

My friend, the purpose for why I am pointing all of this out to you is that God has given you a pastor who is God’s angel that He has sent your way to help you in your life. Though I am not opposed to you doing special things for your pastor, the best thing that you could do for your pastor is to listen to him as an angel of God. If God sent an angelic being to you, and you knew that it was God's angel, you would pay high respect to that angelic being and would listen to every word that they told you to do. However, God has sent an angel to you, and the angel that God has sent to you is your pastor. How you listen to your pastor and what he tells you to do from God's Word shows how you listen to God and what you think of God.

Let me encourage you not to be passive about what the pastor preaches and says you ought to do. Always remember that God has sent him your way to deliver His message to help you. It might just be that God answers your prayer through your pastor's message; therefore, listen carefully to what he preaches, teaches, and counsels, for it is God's answer to your prayer to help you in your life.
