Philippians 3:14

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

I don't know if you are like me, but I don't want to be a part of something that is not great; I want to be part of something great. Not only do I want to be a part of something great, but I want to be part of something miraculous. The great works of those in the Scriptures and those we read about from the past all have the same characteristics that Philippians 3:14 teaches. Let me share what you must do to accomplish great works.

First, you must press. Paul said, I press. You must push yourself if you will see great works done. Nobody will press you to do great works, so you must press yourself. If you wait for another to push you to do great works daily, you will never do anything great for God. Those whom God used to do great works were people who knew how to push themselves. You will never do anything great for God if you don't put pressure on yourself to attempt great works.

Second, you must press toward. Notice that Paul pressed toward, which is a forward direction. You will never accomplish anything great if you are not pushing yourself forward. People who are satisfied with having the same accomplishments every year are people who are going nowhere. You must push forward to do great works because forward is a faith direction. Pushing yourself to do more is a forward direction, which results in greater works being done.

Third, you must press toward the mark. You will never accomplish anything great for God without having a mark or a goal to accomplish. Marks are something that are written down. If you have goals that are not written down, those goals will be forgotten, which means they are worthless goals. Set great goals for yourself and the work you are doing, write them down, then push yourself to attempt those great goals.

Fourth, you must press for the prize. What is the prize? The prize is accomplishing the goal. Your prize is knowing that you got there. There is always a sense of accomplishment that truly makes you feel satisfied when you can check off a box that you have done something great that you set out to do. Push yourself toward the goal until you can mark it off as accomplished.

Fifth, you must toward the high calling. The high calling of God is to reach the lost for Christ. Everything we do should be about reaching the lost for Christ. Your goals need to be something that helps you and your church to reach more people for Jesus Christ. We only have one life to live, and our lives should be lived to accomplish the high calling of God, which is the calling of every believer to reach the lost for Christ.

Sixth, press yourself by staying focused on Christ Jesus. How do I keep the pressure on myself to keep going? I press and put pressure on myself daily by wanting to live my life in such a manner that won't disappoint my Saviour. I see what my Saviour has done for me, and the least I can do is to give my best for Him. Christ deserves nothing less than our best effort. Are you giving your best for Christ?

If you will accomplish great things for God, these six things will be a part of your life. Nobody will make you do these things, but you must put pressure on yourself daily to do these things if you will accomplish great things for God.
