Matthew 25:28
Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
The number ten is mentioned is a standard of excellence. For instance, ten times God spoke in creation. God sent ten plagues on the land of Egypt. The four Hebrew children were ten times better than anyone else. The fact that God talks about this servant going from five talents to ten talents is no mistake. Five is the number of grace, which means every believer ought to let the grace of God motivate them to become a ten-talent Christian. Grace ought not to be wasted, but it ought to cause us to become ten times better than we were when God saved us.
In the story of the talents, the master gave one servant five talents, but he took those talents and multiplied them. When his lord returned, he had turned his five talents into ten. When the lord took from the one-talent servant, he set the standard for ten-talent Christianity. Let’s look at the standard for ten-talent Christianity.
First, ten-talent Christianity is dependable. This lord could trust the servant to take what was given to him and use it for the lord’s good. God cannot use you much if you are not dependable. Dependability is not a gift; it is a choice. God uses dependable people who will do what they are supposed to do when nobody is watching them.
Second, ten-talent Christianity is faithful in the little. Faithful in the little is making sure everything is done right. Faithful in the little is dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s. Faithful in the little is treating everything importantly. If you can’t be faithful to do right and care for the little things, you certainly can't be trusted to do right with the big things.
Third, ten-talent Christianity is respectful to authority. You will notice this servant called his master, lord. This is a term of respect. Respect is a two-way street. Many say they want respect, but they don't give it. You will mostly find that if respect is first given, respect will often be reciprocated. If you are unwilling to be respectful to authority, you can't expect the same respect back.
Fourth, ten-talent Christianity is loyal to its leader. This servant could have easily been disloyal as the one-talent servant, but he was loyal despite his leader not being present. If a dog can be loyal despite the treatment of its master, then believers ought to be loyal to their leaders and their God. I would hate to think that a dog is more loyal to its master than a believer to their leaders and their God.
Fifth, ten-talent Christianity sets a standard for others to achieve. The ten-talent servant set the standard for doubling, which caused others to strive for the same. A ten talent Christian will do so much right that it sets the standard for others to reach the same.
Sixth, ten-talent Christianity is self-driven. Nobody should have to tell you what to do; you should motivate yourself to do it, especially if you will be a ten-talent Christian.
Seventh, ten-talent Christianity is profitable. Get a multiplying mentality to do ten times more than what you have right now. Ten talent Christianity is what changes a world. We can make a difference in our world if we drive ourselves to have ten times more than what we presently have.
