Philippians 2:5
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Having the mind of Christ is not a suggestion for the believer, but a command, and if followed, we will be used to reach many lost for Christ. One reason so many have no influence to reach the lost is because they function through their mind instead of God’s. We have a generation that wants to serve God on their terms instead of God’s way; however, a generation that attempts to serve God on their terms will fail to obey God and influence others for Christ. The greatest key to being able to influence people for Christ mightily is to have the mind of Christ. What is this mind?
First, it is the mindset of not worrying about self-reputation. Jesus made himself of no reputation. Let me put it this way: if Jesus were in our day, He would not worry about how many followers He had on social media because He made Himself of no reputation. Too many are more concerned with how popular they are instead of making truth the important thing. Our name is never supposed to be at issue. I remember hearing a story about my pastor, Bro. Jack Hyles, when he found out some people were trying to run a conference to defend him. He said, “Jack Hyles is not the issue, Christ is.” Just as Christ commanded, He made himself of no reputation, but God certainly used him mightily and gave him a great name among the servants of God. If you make yourself of no reputation, you will find God will be able to use you mightily for His cause.
Second, the mind of Christ is a mindset that takes on the form of a servant. The word form is talking about the structure of a servant. It did not say that Christ was a servant, but He lived as one by serving others. The mind of Christ strives to serve others. The mind of Christ will not use their position to get people to serve them, but they will use their position to better serve others. You will find that God can use those mightily who make it their daily goal to serve others. Serving others is simply meeting another’s needs. In other words, being a servant is about living to meet whatever needs another has so that you have made their life or day better. At the end of each day, you will have cheered someone’s day or helped someone if you have the mindset to take on the form of a servant.
Third, the mind of Christ is a mindset of humility. What is humility? Humility is willing to die to self-desires so you can meet the needs of others. Humility is not walking around with a defeatist attitude. The humblest person is the person who is willing to be inconvenienced to meet another’s need. You will never be successful in serving Christ if you are unwilling to be inconvenienced to meet the needs of others: your spouse, your fellow believer in Christ, and those whom you come across every day.
Fourth, the mind of Christ is a mindset to obey. Obedience is the willingness to do right at all costs. Jesus was willing to obey, even though it meant He must die. You will never have the mind of Christ if there are lines to which you will obey the Lord. Obedience is removing the point of stopping and saying that you will serve Christ even if you must lose all to serve Him.
My friend, your impact for Christ is determined by how much of His mind controls your mind and life. The way to make a great impact with your life is by letting your mind have the mind of Christ.
