Numbers 14:37-38
Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD. But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
Two different types of people are represented in these verses. The first type are those who see God through their obstacles and won't follow His will. The second type are those who see obstacles through God’s omnipotence and are never afraid of the obstacle. It is this latter group that lives in the safety zone of God’s will even though God’s will seems impossible and dangerous.
Moses told the twelve spies to spy out the land and come back with their report. Moses’ mistake could have been that he did not know these ten leaders were seeing God through life and obstacles. These ten spies came back with an evil report. They saw the good of the land but said they also saw the giants and were as grasshoppers in these giants' eyes. The ten spies were unwilling to do God’s will to take the land because they thought they would die by doing God’s will.
Joshua and Caleb were of a different spirit because they were of a different perspective; they looked at God’s will through the eyes of God and saw His omnipotence to overcome the obstacles of the walls and giants of the land. These two men were not afraid of death because, by faith, they saw God was well able to overcome any obstacle.
It is interesting that the ten spies who refused to follow God’s will because of safety concerns died in the area that they considered a safe place; whereas, the two men who lived by faith and did not let the “unsafe” area stop them were the men who took the land and saw God miraculous power exhibited in their lives.
You can create a safety zone of your perspective and only serve God where you think it is safe, but you will spiritually die in what you think is a safe place to live. Too many of God’s people are living in their safety zone but are spiritually dying because they are not living by faith. Faith living does not always seem safe to those who live by sight because they are not looking at where faith wants to take them through the eyes of God’s omnipotence. Living a life that you consider safe always keeps you out of God’s will.
The safest place to be found is living by faith in God’s will. It will not matter how dangerous God’s will may humanly seem; if you live in the safety zone of God’s will, you will discover that His will is where you are the safest and where He will use you the greatest. When you look through the Scriptures, you find that God’s will often took people to what was seemingly unsafe, but God’s power was able to protect and use those who were willing to live by faith. In my own life, I have gone soul winning in places where many say it is unsafe, but God’s power has protected me all these years. I am not saying that bad things don't happen to those who live in God’s will, but I am saying that living by faith in God’s will is the safest place any believer can live.
My friend, you will spiritually die if you look for everything to be safe in your eyes. If you look through God’s eyes and live by faith, you will find His will is the safest place to be and the place where God performs the miraculous through your life. Never let unbelief and safety stop you from seeing God do the miraculous through that which seems unsafe.
