Genesis 11:6
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
How the people built the tower of Babel gives great insight into what could be done in a church if people copied their working model. When God came to see what these people were doing, even He noticed that nothing will be restrained from them because of their determination and unity in building this tower. The greatest mistake these people made was they left God out of their plans, and that is what led to their failure.
Every church has great potential only if each church follows what these people did to build this tower. Imagine God saying about a church, nothing will be restrained from them. Unleashed potential is what could happen in every church if these steps were followed by all. Let me share what led to unleashing the potential of these people and how you can apply it to your church.
First, they had a vision. Their vision was to build a tower to Heaven. You must have a great vision to do something great for God. You will only go as far as your vision; therefore, get a great vision that only God can fulfill.
Second, they had a purpose. Everything they did was to fulfill their purpose. Purpose keeps you focused on what you are to do. These people didn't get sidetracked from the unimportant things. When a church is focused on God’s purpose, nothing will sidetrack them from fulfilling it. The Great Commission should be the purpose of the church, and if everyone got on board with that purpose, there is nothing bigger than fulfilling that purpose.
Third, they were organized. You can't build a tower this big without organization. Your church will only go as far as its organization. This means everyone must work together in the organizational structure if that church wants to become a great work for God.
Fourth, they were one. These people did not allow pettiness to stop them from building. Pettiness has prevented many churches from becoming a great church. You must lay aside your opinions for the great cause of Christ if you want your church to be built into something great.
Fifth, they worked together. Everyone was involved in this work. Every person in the church needs to get involved in the program if they want their church to become something great. God can always use a few people to build something great, but He can use all people to build something miraculous. Learn to work together for the purpose and cause that you are trying to achieve, and great things will happen.
Sixth, they were determined. These people had a determination not to allow anything to stop them. God can never use you to build something great if you quit at the first appearance of adversity. Be determined to work through adversity and watch how God uses it to magnify the work being done.
Seventh, the one mistake these people made is they left God out. Get God involved in what you are building and there will be no restraint to what He can do through your labors.
