Where Is Your Compassion

Luke 7:13
And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
Jude 1:22 says, And of some have compassion, making a difference: Compassion is the difference maker in lives, but so few have compassion. Notice that Jude says, some have compassion. He did not say most have compassion, or those who serve have compassion, but he said some have compassion. The reason so few people make a difference in lives is because some have compassion instead of all have compassion. If all had compassion, we would make a great difference in the lives of those God allows us to reach.
You will notice that Jesus did not have compassion for this widow woman who had just lost her only son before He saw her. Now, let’s think about this; we are talking about the Son of God who did not have compassion on this woman before He saw her. Yes, He cared for and loved this woman, but compassion only came when He saw her.
The lack of compassion is a lack of seeing people. It says about Jesus in Matthew 9:36, But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion.… Notice again that when Jesus saw the multitudes is when He was able to have compassion on the people. He could not have compassion for their needs without seeing them, but once He saw them is when He had compassion and made a difference in their lives.
You will never have compassion for people unless you see them, and you cannot see people unless you are among them. One of the biggest reasons people don't have compassion is because compassion results from being among the people. How can you have a concern for the needs of people if you are never where they are to see their needs? You cannot make a difference in lives unless you get among them to see their needs.
There are two types of ministry workers. There is the worker who shows up and does their job like they are supposed to. Now, this person is not a bad person. Think with me about this person; they are doing something that most never do. They are at least involved in doing the Lord’s work. The ministry is dying because of the lack of laborers, and at least this person shows up to be involved in ministry. However, this person never makes a difference in anyone’s life because all they do is show up to do their “job.”
The second type of ministry worker not only shows up and fulfills their responsibility, but they go the second mile and get among those they minister to and, while among them, they see the needs of those they are ministering to, which results in them having compassion. Their compassion for that person is what allows them to help with their needs, which results in making a difference in their lives.
My friend, the only reason a Sunday School teacher or any ministry worker does not have compassion for their class or the people in their ministry is because they never visit their people. Compassion makes the difference, and you will never have compassion without getting among those you work with. Let me challenge you to be more than just a ministry worker, but be a ministry worker who gets among those you minister to so that you can see their needs, which will result in you having compassion for them and being able to help make a difference in their lives.
