Joshua 1:5
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Israel’s conquering of the Promised Land is a great lesson on how the believer can be a successful soul winner. Every believer wants to be a winner in soul winning, but many often fail. They don't fail because they don't try; they fail because they don't have the right mindset as they go. The fact that you are going soul winning means you have already won in obeying Christ’s command to be a soul winner. Therefore, what you need to work on to be a winner as a soul winner is your mindset as you go. Let me point out several mindsets to work on if you want to be a winner in soul winning.
First, you must have a “go” mindset. You cannot win souls by sitting. God told Joshua to go over this Jordan. The Jordan River you face is to get up and go soul winning. God commands in Matthew 28:19, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…. God commands in Mark 16:15, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. You will never win in soul winning until you get the mindset to go soul winning. You must get up and go if you want God to bless your soul winning efforts.
Second, you must have the mindset that you are not going alone. God said to Joshua, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake. God never sends the believer alone to do the great work of soul winning. Acts 1:8 says, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. God gives you the power as you go to preach the Gospel to the lost; you are not going alone. As you go soul winning, you will find the Holy Spirit will guide you to say the right things to the lost person, but you must go for that to happen.
Third, you must be strong and of a good courage. You cannot be fearful and be successful as a soul winner. God wants you to be strong and of a good courage as you go. Never let the task ahead of you or the person you will be talking to intimidate you. Be strong and of a good courage. You have a reason to be bold because the Gospel you are preaching is truth and it can save the lost from Hell. Stop going with a defeated spirit, but go with a strong and courageous spirit that you expect to see someone saved, and you will be pleasantly surprised how people will listen to you.
Fourth, preach the Word as you go. God told Joshua in verse 8, this book of the law shall not depart out of the mouth. Romans 1:16 says, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Remember, the Gospel is what does the work, not you. Just give the Gospel and let it do its powerful work in the heart of the individual you are talking to. The only help the Gospel needs from you is to give it; let the power of the Gospel speak to the heart as you give it.
Fifth, God is with you wherever you go soul winning. God is able to protect you when you go into dangerous places. The Scriptures promise the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. The LORD will keep you safe, just go to every place and He will protect you as you give the Gospel.
