Genesis 22:2
And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Abraham desired a son his entire life, and God finally gave him his desire. However, God came to Abraham and asked him to take his only son, go to the top of Mount Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering. Amazingly, Abraham did not flinch. His faith in God was unwavering, and his devotion to God to give Him anything that He wanted was resolved.
When God asked Abraham to give his only son, He was asking Abraham to give his dreams, hopes, and grandest possession back to Him. Abraham understood that God gave him Isaac, and that Isaac truly belonged to God, but to take away that which was dearest to his heart was to ask Abraham for his all.
Every person needs that Mount Moriah moment in their life when they tell God He can have anything of theirs that He wants. Anything less than total sacrifice to God is to withhold from God what is rightfully His. The Mount Moriah moment in one’s life is the moment they are willing to give total sacrifice to God and His cause. Most people won't go this far with God, but those who are willing to have the Mount Moriah moment in their lives see God use them the greatest. The Mount Moriah moment teaches us several lessons.
First, God has as much of you as to where you draw the line to what He can have. There should be no lines drawn to which God cannot cross. Wherever you draw the line with God to tell Him He cannot have what is across that line is the line that shows how much of your heart God has.
Second, God has a right to have your all. You would not have life if it were not for God. You breathe air because God gives you air to breathe. You see because God gave you eyes to see. You hear because God gave you ears to hear. You live because God gives you a heartbeat and keeps you alive. Everything that comes with your existence is because of God, and it is not unreasonable for God to ask you to give your all.
Third, you are a steward of what God has given to you, which means what you have is not yours in the first place. What you have, whether it be money, possessions, children, or life, belongs to God; you are simply a steward of what God gives you. To have a Mount Moriah moment in your life is to tell God you choose to be a good steward of what He has entrusted to you. Whenever He wants it back to use for Himself, as a steward, you are happy to give it back to Him.
Fourth, God never asks you to give something that He will not give manifold more back to you. God will never be out given. There is no person who has given more to God than what He has given back to them. The person who thinks they have given all will tell you that they always have more to give because God’s blessings are manifold more than what they have given.
Let me ask: what is it that you have that God cannot have? The greatest revelation of your heart is revealed by whether you are willing to surrender your dreams, finances, children, and your all to God. Your Christianity is determined by what you hold back from God. Anything you withhold for yourself is a blessing you are robbing from yourself. Surrender your all to God and He will always bless you more than you can give.
