Your Mindset is Critical

2 Chronicles 2:5
And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.
When Solomon talked about building the house for God, he said that the house which he built is great. He said in verse 9, the house which I am about to build shall be wonderful great. Solomon had more than just building-a-house mindset, but he was building a great house. His mindset in building the temple was what allowed that work to be so magnificent.
Nehemiah had the same mindset. As he built the wall around Jerusalem, he said in Nehemiah 6:3, I am doing a great work. Nehemiah understood that it was not just any wall he was building, but rather a great work for God. That is what kept him from coming down from the wall to meet with people who did not believe like him. Nehemiah's mindset was what enabled him to build the great wall in such a short time.
Your mindset is critical to accomplishment. You will never accomplish anything great for God or in life if what you are doing is not great in your mind. If you don't work a great job, you will treat it like it's not a great job. If you don't have a great family, you won't treat your family as if they are great. If you don't have a great spouse, you will not treat your spouse as if they are a great person. If you don't have a great church, you will never put into your church what God wants you to put into it. If you don't have a great Bible, you won't put to heart the words inside of that Book. If you don't have a great prayer life, your prayers will only be a repetition of words that go nowhere. Your mindset is critical to the treatment of what you do in life.
People of great success have a mindset that everything they do is great. Maybe the reason most people don't do anything successful for God is because they don't believe what they are doing for God is a great work. Most people treat the work of God as a penance they have to perform to stay spiritual. When you do not believe that what you are doing for God is great is when you allow little things to go undone to the demise of the work you are doing.
You must change your mindset that what you do for God is great. When you drive that bus to pick up children, you are driving a great bus. When you teach a Sunday school class, you must treat your lesson as a great lesson and your class as a great class. When you work in the nursery, you must treat that nursery as a great nursery and those children as great children of God that God gives you the privilege to care for. When you preach a sermon, you must treat that sermon as a great sermon that is about to be addressed to souls that are hanging in the balance between Heaven and Hell. When you do maintenance around the church buildings, you must treat those maintenance times as doing a great work for God so that you don't do a half-shod repair. When you're putting together an attendance-building campaign, you must treat that campaign as a great campaign. Everything you do in the Lord's work must be great, because if you don't treat it in this fashion, you will not give your full energy and attention to the work at hand.
My friend, let me challenge you to change your mindset from just doing a job to doing something great for God. Always realize that nothing you do for God should be done carelessly, but it should be done as if you are doing a great work, because you are. God deserves His people to give a great effort to such a great work.
