Don’t Stop Trusting Trust

Matthew 14:29-30

And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

One of the great illustrations of faith in the Scriptures is when Jesus commanded Peter to come to Him on the water. What is missed in this story is the trust Peter had in the word of the Saviour. Peter trusted Jesus enough to keep him safe if he, by faith, would step out of the boat to walk on water. It took great trust for Peter to step out because he had never walked on water before. Yet, the trust he had that the Saviour was powerful enough to help him walk on water is what stirred his faith to step out.

However, we all know Peter allowed the boisterous wind to cause him to take his eyes off Jesus to see the waves about him. When Peter took his eyes off the Saviour to look at the winds is when his faith wavered and he stopped trusting Who he trusted. Peter stopped trusting his trust because he looked at the results of the boisterous wind. Now, this is what is interesting. Peter could not see the wind, but he could see the Saviour. Peter only saw the results of the wind, and the results of the wind caused him to stop trusting Who he trusted.

Many believers have stopped trusting their trust to make bad decisions that caused them to lose the blessings their initial trust gave them. A person starts tithing, but the boisterous economy caused them to look at how little money they have, and they stop tithing to their financial detriment. A person starts living for God, and the boisterous winds of trials caused them to stop living for God to the sacrifice of God’s blessings. A person starts a life of faith in serving God full time, but the boisterous attacks and pressures of the ministry caused them to quit the ministry and miss a life of blessings that God had for them.

Never let the boisterous winds that challenge your faith cause you to stop trusting trust. Never undo in doubt the decision you made by faith. If God took care of you when you initially stepped out, what makes you think He cannot continue to care for your needs? Just because life has become boisterous around you does not mean that you should stop trusting Who you trusted. Did you think there would be no winds to test your trust? Did you think your life would be different from everyone else whose trust and faith faced boisterous winds?

The great stories of faith that challenge our faith all came because these people never stopped trusting Who they trusted. We are challenged because they kept trusting their initial trust when the boisterous winds of life came. We see Daniel, Joseph, Job, and Moses who all trusted God, and when they faced the boisterous winds of adversity, they kept trusting Who they trusted. We enjoy the story of David and Goliath because David never let the boisterous size and threats of Goliath stop him from trusting that God was big enough to protect him.

My friend, life's greatest miracles are on the other side of the boisterous winds. You will never know those miracles if you stop trusting your trust. When the boisterous winds come, remember that God has always provided for you in the past, and He will continue to provide for you in the present if you don't stop trusting your trust.
