Deuteronomy 16:3
Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
One thing God wanted Israel to always remember was the day that they came out of the land of Egypt. This day was called the Passover. The Passover was a constant reminder of the time that God brought Israel out of Egypt. God knew that if they remembered this day that they came out of the land of Egypt, they would never want to go back to the bondage of Egypt and always keep Him first in their lives.
This day that they came out of Egypt is a picture of our salvation. When we got saved, we were saved because of the blood of Jesus Christ. Just like they had to put the blood of a lamb on the doorpost of their house, so we must have the blood applied to our lives if we are to be saved. Now that we are saved, just as God commanded Israel to remember the day that they came out of the land of Egypt, so we must also remember the day when we got saved. There are several things that I do in my own life to keep that day that I got saved fresh in my mind and heart.
First, I read God’s Word daily. Reading God's Word every day helps you remember the day you got saved and how you got saved. There are so many pictures of salvation throughout the Scriptures that will remind you of your salvation that will keep your salvation fresh. One reason I read God's Word daily is to keep my salvation fresh in my heart and mind. Yes, it feeds me daily, but it also keeps my salvation fresh.
Second, I pray. Having a daily walk with God in prayer keeps God close to you, and His closeness will remind you of the Holy Spirit who sealed your salvation until the day of redemption. People who struggle with their salvation likely struggle with their prayer lives as well. If you keep your prayer life active by having a walk with God daily in prayer, you will find your salvation will remain fresh and exciting.
Third, I faithfully attend church. Going to church is a constant reminder of your salvation. You will hear sermons that will reaffirm your salvation in your heart, and those sermons will also challenge you to do something for Christ. These things are a great help in keeping your salvation fresh.
Fourth, I weekly go over the time I got saved. I got saved on June 21, 1973. I never forget that time when I got saved. I regularly go back to that night when my mother showed me how to be saved because that keeps my salvation fresh. You may not know the exact date that you got saved, but you will know where you were when you got saved. I challenge you to continually go over that day in your mind so that your salvation is fresh in your mind and heart.
Fifth, I tell others how to be saved. I have found that soul winning is a constant reminder of the day I got saved. Every time I witness to someone, I go over my testimony of when I got saved. You will be able to keep your salvation fresh by witnessing to others and telling them what someone told you about how to be saved.
What is the purpose of keeping your salvation fresh? The purpose is to never let your walk with God get old. The world will become enticing to you when your salvation gets stale to you; keep your salvation fresh, and God will always be more enticing to serve than lure for the world will ever be.
